VW Genuine Bike Rack - dented bike frame

I would like to ask how/if other folk are adapting their VW bike racks to prevent scratching and handle carbon frame bikes.
The clasps that grip the bike frame are lined with rubber but then have a lip of pointed aluminium. Today I tightened the clasp around my alu cross bar (standard size tube) and found a small dent in the frame. I'm wondering whether a rubber liner is available or whether straps like the fiamma bike block are available?

Wrap a old inner tube round frame then put clamp over. It only needs to be hand tight.

I bought an extra adapter that is fixed between the seat post and the handlebar. Thule has one. Originally for minibikes or ladies frames. Fix the clamp to this adapter. I don't clamp anything onto the carbon.
