Who else is waiting for the T6 California order book to open?

I feel as though we will order as soon as it's possible!

Issue will be, of course, that any type of deal might be minimal but will have to see what is possible when dealers are looking to take their first orders.

I read somewhere the whole VW range was increasing 4% from the 27th so possibly that's when the book will open lol

We were looking to change to a T6 when the book opens but after chatting to our dealer last week he said there will be no discounts available on the Cali for at least the first few months :headbang So with that and a 4% prices increase is going to put the Cali at nearly £60k for a nice spec

.
Me. Well I sort of ordered one last October. It went like this: I handed over £500 for an unknown design, spec, price, and delivery date. The dealer said ok thank you for the money and you are now on our wait list for a T6 California.

I will be due to order one in 2018 but then the debate will be do I order a T6 or wait for the T7, which of course will be 42% more economical in exchange for 7% more expensive but available with more electric everything - handbrake, seats, rear tailgate etc powered by an all new solar panel that will fail miserably in a British winter :(

Ouch but not unexpected. Actually the 4% rise was. I would have said 1 to 2%. Discount on a new model....no chance until VW have gauged the demand.

Still I would be happy to pay £8k more just to remove that bloody handbrake and have an electric seat.

Yup, but if there's little or no discount I'll wait.

I'm sure drive the deal will find you some discounts.

There was very little discount to be had on the last few 180 dsg 4motion...:(. Mind you got lots of extras :D

Vw have been criticised quite heavily on this forum and elsewhere for allowing their commercial network to supply the California rather than their passenger car division. The service that some customers receive is quite appalling for a purchase costing anything upto 60 k plus. So from last year vw have been cutting the number of dealers able to sell the California as a lot of the commercial dealers didn't buy in and resented the investment in running an SE and Beach changing them at least 3/4 times a year and having specialist personnel to sell them. However the dealers that are allowed to sell them will be enthusiasts and the experiance that they can deliver will be much better I am sure . It depends how many units vw are bringing in and the targets that the dealers will have as to how much of a deal you can get ,I suspect it will be quite low for the 1st year or so and discounts will be hard to achieve Especially as the dealers who just blew them out the door to achieve target are no longer able to supply them?

Being called VW Lifestye Centers apparently.

Plenty of T5s still available for those who want to buy one.. A dealer I recently spoke to had 14 ordered, and unallocated, to take up the slack until the T6 came along....

My dealer told me that the unallocated ones were being taken back by the factory

The dealer that has 14 units sold has probably put spoof sold names against them to get the build slot, so they have supply until the new t6 becomes available (speculation) can't blame them if they have the balls to do it !!

VW has to have a cut off date and if they have units available that are not sold then they may well remove them from the system to protect residual values and future sales off T6.

Sounds like you have an ear to the industry. I'm "aware" and agree with your statement!

(Any chance of obtaining a discount on an BMW I3 Rex?)

I think otherwise, dealers have ordered enough T5 Californias to continue drip feeding into the market over the spring summer. The dealers have bought/ ordered them, VW isn't going to take back a made to order Cali, they will sell as the T6 Cali will be more expensive and i don't envisage any arriving until the end of this year at the earliest.

Have VW formally confirmed the Cali will continue in the T6? Not seen anything specific in the corporate publicity.

Have to say, would be surprised if they didn't but their other camper never really took off in the UK. (CaddyMaxi Camper... where some dealers still have 18 month old stock)

Vw dealers are allocated California build slots,if they sell a California they mark it sold and put the specification on it and a customer name and it gets built. If they have allocation but don't confirm that they want it with a customer name or marked as a demo it won't get built ,VW will allocate it to another dealer or withdraw it if it's close to a new model change.

Looking at the new model I wouldn't have thought that they will change a huge amount of the interior ,perhaps different colour cabinets and a few other bits and pieces .what do you think ?

Agred on the dvelopment/tooling requirements.

No idea, hence the question, from a business perspective it's a small volume production (with significant issues in current form... hopefully majority resolved) The actual contribution to profits could probably be classed as "noise" in terms of the overall profitability of the Commercial Vehicles business and definately in the the whole VW profit line. (I may well be wrong on this :) )

These are questions that will be being asked within VW, normal business planning... Simply wondering if they'd yet formally announced.

Visited one dealer today and phoned another that I'd visited before. No info about when the new California will be available to order or for delivery, nor any idea when they will know. Both have a couple of Californias in the order queue, though not all have build weeks and so may simply not get built (these are dealer orders not customer ones).

Such a difficult position for us. Personally I prefer the new model. If I knew it would be for Sept delivery then I'd order now. On the other hand if I knew it wouldn't be until Sept next year then I'd compromise on one of these T5s. One dealer suggested it could be that long - well actually he said when T5 was introduced the California was 10 months after the Panel van and it could be the same again. All of the pre-orders seem to be a bit spec heavy but if some of the specified options could be deleted then I'd be tempted by that (not the engine, gearbox or colour, but accessory options like the Tour Pack and the 5th seat).

Sole verifiable fact I've found is that the VW website has a Press Release about the T6, which has a link to 'Register your interest for the new Transporter models' and on that page you have only four options:
  • Transporter Panel Van (2015)
  • Transporter Kombi Van (2015)
  • Transporter Shuttle (2015)
  • Caravelle (2015)
No mention of the California here at all.

The Auto Express article on the T6 suggests there will be a California version and it will be late 2015.

Whether their facts are correct or not I don't know. I've read AE for many years and their predictions on release dates can often be wrong. I hope for the sake of those waiting to order that they are correct that there will be a Cali version

I think the workforce at the California facility will need continuity otherwise they will be twiddling their thumbs waiting for vans; so I would expect some T6 Cali versions to start trickling through although maybe LHD lower spec ones. The higher spec vans such as the UK caravelle based Cali and the Sportline will probably arrive a bit later than the bread and butter ones.

Unless the Cali is cancelled altogether following this power struggle:-

Re-visited the other dealer today. He thought VW would tweak the current engine to get under the Euro 6 emission limits, as the T6 in RHD wouldn't be until mid next year. But this didn't seem like anything more than guesswork. Not sure I fancy a tweaked version: the new T6 engine is one thing but more filtering on the old unit might spell trouble.

I think I will make an offer on one of their pre-ordered T5s.
