West Coast Scotland tour 2019

Ok night before our trip and we’ve packed and double packed.
Things to do for morning
Empty water tank and refill
Unplug and stow electric hook up cable.

Had ghost Imobiliser and cat 6 tracker fitted so remember how to start van.

Ideally leaving at 2pm
Oh and my 19 year old daughters announced she wants to come on trip .

Will post pics tomorrow

The best midget repellent we've found is Smidge - they sell it everywhere up there, it works & it smells nice. I've tried everything (other repellents, Skin-so-soft etc) but Smidge is my favourite. You may need it even if you're going in May, if you're lucky enough to have good weather. Another tip is to find a windy campsite!

This what can happen if you forget to use it!

And we are off first stop over is Langton just offA1 not far from York.
Just emptying and refilling water whilst making use of every second of home electricity.
Car on left is my company car going back today and then Cali will be my sole driver.
Next post of Cali at campsite :thumb

Wow, a fair bit of travel there, really hope you enjoy the trip and hoping you get some decent weather....Craignure Inn ( just up the road from campsite) is very dog friendly... enjoy

So day one 6 hours plus 40 min break to Boroughbridge just off A1 and Old Hall campsite.
14 pitches very clean- 5 minute walk into town with two pubs and a chippy - very nice stopover if your A1 way to Scotland.
Today 3hour drive to Edinburgh. Polly was great we had heater on 2, Mrs Vick and I upstairs and our surprise attendee daughter downstairs (last night she said the van might even be cool).

If the Royal Highland Show is on the roads around Edinburgh may be very busy. Have a great tour.

The Royal Highland Show is on however Morton Hall is on the bypass so should be okay coming from the South. 3 hours journey time is a tad optimistic from Boroughbridge though. Safe journey.

Tom

3.5 hours later arrived at Morton Hall 4 miles outside Edinburgh.
Much bigger site though still quiet and tidy.
Now off to explore
Awning dropped on one side in case of rain.

So arrived at Red Deer campsite just outside Glasgow by stepps at 11:45am + 1:45mins steady journey from Edinburgh. A short 7min walk to station and 20mins later we were at Queens station. We did a free walking tour of the City - highlights were the Town hall & central station.
Tomorrow we start the Islands with a leisurely trip to Oban and then Mull.

Highly recommend Mull, we've been a number of times, its a beautiful island. If you have time a visit to Iona is a must. Enjoy!

Nice and summer over in Morar!

So yesterday we experienced proper rain for the first time in Scotland- I’d swear the raindrops were bigger!
This morning we had scrambled egg with some grated cheese on toast all in the ridge monkey.
Now 3 hour drive to Oban - spotted this next to us - very hardcore.

Looks like you've hit it lucky with the weather for the next few days...

Oban’s a great wee place. Well worth the short hike up to McCaig’s tower for the views, Oban distillery for a tour & a 14yo bottle purchase if you like your whiskies. The seafood stalls down by the ferry serve up some mean mussels too F7DD8D28-1721-4BBA-BB9B-C583750D9413.jpeg

The green welly shop is a popular service station stop & from there gives the option of taking the A82 via glencoe, glen etive where the famous bond scene with M is just off the main road from there & it takes you past castle stalker. The other route via the A85 is the quicker route & still a nice drive round the side of Loch awe. All in all a lovely drive with some cracking scenery regardless of the weather.
