What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Well I think we have bought a pull out boot tray for our Beach today. I've had so many problems buying this item from Germany so I may well be wrong.

If it arrives it will form the final key element in our storage master plan. We now have Van Essa window bags to store our clothes and wash bags etc and they are brilliant. This tray will give easier access to the boot where our Waeco CFX 35 fridge/freezer will live along with carefully selected Eurocrates.
You have Eurocrat’s living in your California??

A brake fluid change, new rear brake light and a new intercooler. Bargain +
£790.00!

Already bought, and in use.
Austrian Vignette and Italian Telepass Tag.

It has taken so long to arrive that I forgot I had ordered it.
Much more attractive to keep in the van than a toilet roll and less obtrusive to take with you on a site where it is lacking.
It has a strap to hang it from and a hook to attach keys so we don’t lock ourselves out
Cheap as chips too..,

Lovely where did you purchase from please.

Actually very pleased with it. The secret apparently is to remove the cardboard inner of the toilet roll and take it downwards though the apature.
Lovely where did you purchase from please.

It was either eBay or amazon. Not at home at the mo but will check and post the link.

I think that mine was through eBay as it took about 4 weeks to arrive from the Far East.
Glad I have started a trend in loo roll holders
Remember to take the paper out from the middle by removing the tube or it might not work so well!
So much more classy

Where did you get it from in the end Borris...?
How much are the German draws?

I’m wondering about making these for Cali club members, but need to work out a final design and price.

We have ordered ours from Calicap.de. Having researched these pull out trays for some time and also looked into making one myself we eventually decided just to use some Euros we had sitting on a preloaded Multi currency card and buy one. Much less hassle or so we thought! I won't go into all that but suffice to say, I won't be buying anything online using that method again. What a PITA!

The advantage of this German company's product is that unlike other manufacturer's offerings, their trays are made in different lengths ranging from 600mm up to 1000mm. Their web site has a very good description of the way the various lengths fit into the Cali Beach and is accompanied by some excellent diagrams. We have ordered the 700mm length which seems to provide the optimum tray storage solution for most internal arrangements. Their photos actually show how well this version provides maximum flexibility. Shorter tends to restrict the trays practical use and longer restricts the vans practical use under certain scenarios.

The 700mm version costs an eye watering 703€ (about £630ish depending on the current exchange rate). That price includes German taxes and P&P. Other manufacturers can be cheaper but they all seem to be 800mm in length which can restrict certain internal seating/storage arrangements.

As for manufacturing these trays for the club, I think that would be an excellent idea. I don't know what the costs involved would be but I'm sure that they could be produced for a lot less than you can buy them for at present. Since extracting items from under the Multiflex in the depths of the boot can be an awkward issue in both the Beach and SE/Ocean, I think you'd have a lot of interest. At the right price they could be a strong seller.

One other thing I've noted is the different ways manufacturers secure their pull out trays to the van. One I've seen uses the two Multiflex rail fixings with the Multifex on top to hold the whole tray assembly in place whilst the Calicap 700 product employs one of the same VW rail fixings in each of the four floor rails. Given the stresses involved when fully loaded and extended, I would have thought that the latter system is a better solution but I may be wrong. The former product has a powder coated tub whilst this one is of alluminium construction featuring robust 3mm thick 80mm high sides.

It's down to personal taste but we chose the Calicap tray as it appears to be very well made and whilst pricey, should stand the test of time.

I agree with Borris, we have been researching these pull-out trays for some time now as we were going to purchase one for our Caravelle generation six. we were going to convert it into a campervan, but instead we bought a seven seater beach and like Borris says the 700 pull-out tray is more practical especially when you have to use the extra seats as we do from time to time.

Cheers guys.
Good info. I’m super busy at the minute with a house renovation.
But I’m back to work in two weeks and will have time to look into it more.
Really missing my rack. It worked well in our Beach.
We were In Cornwall last week and store our clothes in the boot. It was annoying having to move bags around and rifle through everything for the right stuff.

I think with the Ocean, it’s important to maintain living space, otherwise access to the cupboards will be sacrificed if the chair is to far forward, because of a large boot tray.
I will do some measuring and work it all out
:thanks

For the ocean, they only offer 2 sizes 760 & 800. It seems most (including us) go for the 800, it does stop the rear bench going back by a couple of cms but not enough to cause issues with access to cupboards or bench drawers. It's honestly the best purchase we've made for the van and makes boot use/storage so much easier.

Cheers guys.

After owning a Beach for so long, how are you getting on with the Ocean?

We went the other way from SE to Beach. You never know, if and when our circs change we may go back to an Ocean!

Actually second thoughts, it'll take this off thread. Please feel free to PM me.

It’s been a positive move Borris.
The Beach worked great for the two of us, where we ate out more often and were a bit more flexible with our time and commitments.

Children change everything and the Ocean offers more organisation and easier facilities to camp with.
We can cater for the little one easier with the Ocean.

Downsides...?
The electric roof. If Volkswagen offered an Ocean with a manual roof, I would buy one tomorrow.
It’s the Oceans Achilles Heel...!!!
I miss the full width bed and 5th seat.
But we can live without them.
