Which way do you recommend to get to Normandy?

I loved the Poole Cherbourg route. Leaves early so sleep at the dock in Poole or Holiday Inn express. I booked a cabin going over which was great for a snooze after breakfast before getting to Cherbourg

We live in the West Midlands and would go Portsmouth-Caen with overnight cabin.
From us.......M42, M40, A34 to Oxford, Newbury, Winchester, M27, M275.
To avoid the traffic at Winchester we always try to get past nice and early (say 15:00) and have dinner on the waterfront at Portsmouth and make that the start of our relaxing holiday........
living Southampton this the way I go north to avoid M25

I always use Dover to Calais and prefer the tunnel but have used the ferries for the last couple of years due to the price difference about £160 last year if I remember rightly unfortunately not enough Tesco vouchers as I had been card tarting for the best cash back.

New haven - Dieppe Via DFDS....Over 60's discounts, Reasonably comfortable ships. Daytime crossings are good, Nightime a little short for a decent sleep.
