Why are both my sills different?

Hi All,
Not had vehicle long yet, i noticed last night whilst washing it that the near side and offside sills are different.
The nearside one has what i can only describe as a hammered metal finish .And the offside one looks much smoother :?
They both resemble some sort of metal tape which has been painted.

The underside and sills of all new vehicles these days is coated in a rust preventative/protection coat. The sills get sprayed over when the whole vehicle is painted in the factory. This will give you the odd finish to the sills.

I assume you have bought a used van and the difference may be that one sill was damaged at some point in the past, (very easy to do in my experience) and has been repaired, thereby giving the difference in finishes.
