We've just returned from our first experience of camping in a Cali in Devon and Cornwall and found that most of the parking areas on the North Cornwall Coast are now owned by the National Trust. We stopped at one of these just north of Bude and the parking attendant said 'they don't advertise overnight parking but after he has gone there is nothing to say you can't'. So we parked overnight with no problems at all, as long as you leave before he arrives in the morning you don't have to pay another days parking!

Re: Wild camping - city break

We parked up in the coach park in the centre of Bath.
I phoned the number shown on the entrance and asked if campervan s could stay overnight. I was told their was no problem so long as we paid for a full days parking namely £6. Another motor home stayed overnight. Parking and was covered by CCTV and felt very safe.
Stones throw from the city centre - nice long weekend city break....

Half of all my van camping is 'wild' and 'urban' - centre of LDN; Brighton seafront; Bristol docks - it's all part of the sense of 'freedom'! I take suitable precautions with a bit of Google satellite work beforehand and do a little drive around the local area to get a feel for it, before choosing a discrete location. Takes a little while to get used to ambient noises, but normally, once the pubs have shut, there's few people about to bother you.

Were currently trying to drive around the whole coast of the UK (Not in one go!) using the road nearest to the sea regardless. It has meant driving down some very steep and narrow lanes and a massive supply of OS maps, thank God we bought a 180 4- Motion.

The aim is to Wild Camp as much as possible, (we didn’t drive to India in a splitty in the 1960’s but we are old enough to have done so, so this is our retirement adventure). We’ve done 60+nights so far, 90% of which we’ve wild camped, the rest have been Brit Stops(free pub stops) Its not the cost saving, that’s just a bonus, but it’s what we feel owning a V-Dub should be about, adventure and freedom “.

We always try to be discrete (Natural Grey is a help there), never stop where it stats” “No Overnight Camping” and have slept over in some amazing places

As Nike say “Just Do It” :bananadance :upsidedown :bananadance

We can really relate to this - it's not about the cost saving it's about staying in amazing places, this is what the Cali is about, we love it because of that. The freedom in amazing and we have stayed in some incredible places, by lakes, sea and in mountains in the uk and Europe. Early morning swims in lakes when all alone is amazing! Breakfast by the lake after....
Agree that you should respect the area you stay in. It's about doing what you feel comfortable with that's what makes the Cali so amazing!

Absolutely agree, our favourite so far at the top of Lock Etive, completely deserted.
