Wiring up new water pump T6.1

For those who have replaced a water pump on a T6.1 - did you have to buy a new plastic connector as in photo? Or were you able to remove the old wires and connect the new ones into it?

I've opened it the plastic connector up, but the old wires are fastened securely to the pins and not easy to remove. Doesn't look designed to allow wires to be easily replaced

Unfortunately not cut a few cm back from the connector, slip heat shrink over the wires, solder on to the new pump wiring after installation in tank and then heat shrink cover over joint (T6 but same for T6.1)
If not keen on solder these would work just as well.
