I’ve got a sliding tray for the boot.
I saw a Insta video (soerens.vanlife)
of a guy making a 1/2 size of the tray, wooden box, that can open and provide an outdoor cooking area. You can put a Coleman fuel burning stove on a slide out area, has space inside to store items. Just wondering who could make this specialised box for me. My carpenter skills are not up to this task.

Is it just a box with a sliding lid?
what are the dimensions?
do you want the worktop to be laminate?
is a birch ply finish acceptable?

If you put the very nice Primus stove on the table the box would tip, no?
Box would need to be secured to the drawer…..
Tidy design tho.

Hi Trevor
Are you offering to make it?
Where are you based, are you in Ireland?
I’m from the West Midlands

I went back onto Soerens timeline in Insta and found his story of how he built it again.
He designed and incorporated a quick release strap at the back to stop it falling off

Obviously it would depend on build costs, and how much it is worth to you. And yes I am in N Ireland, so postage would be a factor. But it is do-able if the price is right. That’s why I was trying to gauge what you were looking for.

That’s really kind of you Trevor, thank you.
I am going to try and turn my hand to it next week.
I’m an engineer (so like to do things the easiest way) but I think if I buy some of the right tools, I could fashion something.
Need to find the right tools, like dowel placement drill tool and dowels and glue.
I’m going to use different size tank drills to drill holes, as I think it won’t let items slip through the slots like Soerens bulli box build.
Need to find some of the sliding things.

I can recommend Kreg for joints
i hope all goes well … I would love to see your finished project!

Thanks Trevor, I’ll send a photo on PM as it might look a bit too DIY lol.
I’ll look at Kreg, what size plyboard would you reccomend.
I want to keep it kind of lightweight, and it’s only holding maybe 10kg in total of stove, frying pan, say a 1l of water in kettle or coffee maker.

The problem will be the flexibility of the sides depending on how long they are. You can easily make it thinner if you can subdivide the box. I would have expected from looking at the photo that you would have been as well using min 12.5mm. If you use thinner I doubt if you can successfully use dowels (at least i havent!). If you clamp each jointing individually of course and use a good glue you could do without the Kreg.

Thanks Trevor, I’ll go for 12.5mm and see how I get on !
Just trying to source 750mm lockable sliding rails is a PIA !
So many, and so many bad reviews on Amazon, my local hardware store has pointed me in direction of a localcabinet maker for transport camper vans, so waiting for him to get back to me…
