I was talking to a Cali owner at a my VW Van centre today. He told me about the roof problem he had had and how it had taken 2 years to resolve .
I got the guy in the VW van centre to check mine. Seems ok. It is on a 64 plate
Is there a period when this problem was particularly prevalent?

If a Roof Repair expert took two years to resolve the problem, then he didn't have any experience to repair the roofs. When you had issues with your roof , call the professional expert who had all the knowledge about installing and repairing it.

Supposedly prior to Model Year 2015, which means prior to June/July 2014, supposedly. Just keep checking regularly until 2020.:thumb

What did he check....? i hope you where standing next to him while he did it , otherwise go out now and check it yourself .
Open the roof 30cm and pull the rubber seal off , most likely you will find bubbling somewher near the rear of the roof.
If not , lucky you , keep checking frequent!

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I did contact VW and ask if there was a date when they changed construction of the roof.
Reply I got was "if you suspect corrosion then get your local van centre to check it out. We will honour repairs in warranty period!"
Am I right in thinking the corrosion occurs on the front section of the roof between the windscreen and the elevating roof!

Yes, and around the elevating roof under or close by the rubber edge seal.
Some posters have referred to it as rust - it is NOT rust but Galvanic Corrosion caused by dissimilar metals being in contact via an electrolytic solution - water.

With the roof raised have a good look at the framework that goes around the underside of the roof that can also have the paint peeling off.

Tony, have a look at the post above yours, all will be explained.

Checked seems ok so far. Cleaned out water channels which were full of crud!
