Why are LED lights so expensive.

Are they expensive?

Difference between stumbling around in the dark halogens to having night turned into day is £1200.

I use my van all seasons, long dark trudges into rain, mist, sunset at 4pm, ....... over 4 years to have the comfort of brilliant night time vision,?

Horses for courses. If I was travelling only in nice weather months on main roads then I would not bother. In the dark, December - January, rain howling down, awful narrow roads with all sorts of hazards lying in it, .... give me night into day anytime.

Personally, having fitted Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, if have no problem night driving on Main roads or country roads at a safe speed. Its more about the intensity and spread of light rather than just how bright they are. Too bright and you lose peripheral vision. Horses for courses .

Are the ozrams just a straight swap?

What about drls...?
I changed the standard to bright white LED, can't remember the make. However, since the change the DAB radio doesn't work unless I switch the main lights on and the drls are then turned off.

Any recommendations for drl replacements which give the white look instead of yellow...?

I think these are the ones I swapped standard drls for. Not as cool white as LED but definitely whiter than standard.

Hmm, I may have confused these with sidelights, are they the right size for DRLs?

So in answer to the question of why they are so expensive.... because they are crash tested CE marked lenses, designed to limit blinding and the LED electronics are tested for EMC interference with other components in the vehicle (so DAB still works). LEDs also come with headlamp washers.

Just an observation
My 2017 Ocean that has LED head light foes
not have headlamp washers

I'm picking up my new (ish) 2017 MY it has LED so I will let you know if it had washers.

Possibly more cost cutting, its not a mandatory MOT item, just a "may be fitted, if fitted" check.

Why is the California so expensive?
Is it. Have you priced up a base Commercial van with the exact options, that relate to the vehicle only, as you have? Probably a Caravelle would be the nearest base to start from.

The washer is in the bumper, the little thing beneath thno it doesnt, e light in your photo. It slides out and sprays the headlight. Mine operate automatically every 5th time I operate the windscreen washer. It just sprays, no wiper.

I don't think it does, head light wash was an optional extra, which I didn't tick
