The California won't do

Good lad. Hope he is enjoying school. I'm sure that he will, he is a confident, well balanced boy who is ready to build on his adventures and learn.

Guess no other kid in the school will be carrying that amount of adventure in his backpack as he has , after that trip you made...
When he's smart enough and he has kids of his own he will get a big white and tour the mainland saying to them : my dad made us do it in a campervan ....:D

Bless him. He looks very smart indeed. Only a few hours and he'll look like he's been through a hedge backwards!

His first four days are 1.15 to 3.15, so a gentle start with half a class.

What is shocking is how few children cycle to school.~630 pupils from reception to year 6, catchment radius of one mile and four bikes in the bike shed and the local roads clogged with parents in their double or triple parked cars picking up their little treasures. Oh - and an ice cream van in pole position at the school gate.

This needs sorting.

Gentle start, think that's a great idea. Ease them in. My five year old after 9am-3.10pm is like a zombie when i pick her up.
Very true, cycling (and exercise in general) has massive health benefits and of course environmental plus points. Schools are absolutely packed to the brim with cars in the mornings and at 3pm and i only live in a small town (think of all them fumes around our lovely children everyday, future generations will look at us like we look at some of the crazy self inflicting things victorians did!)

Schools/ gov or parents groups need to do some incentive to get children and even parents on bikes. Eg Being self employed, im allowed to claim 25p per mile tax free everytime i use my bike for work purpsoes;
or even park 1/4 mile short and have a nice walk the rest of the way.
I walk with the kids to school every day, best part of the day, have a good chat and laugh with the added bonus that i don't have to fight the traffic choas.
