Hi All.

I have bought a set of Oem trapezoid bars in black for our California hopefully fitting this morning, are there any forum members on line this Morning
I have no fitting instructions, when looking yesterday and briefly looking underneath our Cali, are the brackets handed, with the smaller one to be fitted to
The off side and the longer ones to the near side.
Any info gladly appreciated.

Alan

This video might be handy.

Cheers Mark.

I have just finished fitting side bars, job done not to bad to do, found out the smaller bar goes to the front, I personally set mine so equal distance front to back,
Have read on T6 forum some are fitting so larger gap a rear, have also read they they can be left either way, I suppose personnel choice .

Thank you for your reply and finding the video link

Alan.

Ooh show us the black size bar and get a photo on, be nice to see. I got the chrome angled one fitted 3 weeks ago.

Hi Mark .

I have changed my avatar on my user name, now shows picture of our California with side bars fitted.
Sorry I do not know how to place pictures with replies on the forum.

Great news
Genuine vw???
Happy that they now sell black ones,
I was told chrome only a few weeks back
Where are they from if you don’t mind me asking and are they the version with puddle lights in.
Cheers

Hi Jay.

Sorry to disappoint you, these are copies bought from direct 4 x 4 , we did not want Chrome , so made a decision to buys these half the cost of originals, there have been guys on the T 6 forum buying the original Vw ones then having them powder coated meaning more expense, these do not have the puddle lights fitted.
Hope this helps.
Check out the video above look closely one side Chrome the other side black.

Thankyou well if there good copy’s that’s not to bad after all these are just sidebars.
thats the route I was thinking genuine vw in chrome + shotblast+powder coating
A lot of faffing around to be honest

The official sill bars are fitted in the middle of the sill to enable the supplied jack to be used. This can only be positioned under the sill closest to the relevant wheel.

If the bar covers this point the jack cannot be used, so middle is the best option, and I think, looks best too.

Can you still use the designated Jacking Points ?

Often a problem with 3rd Party side bars, even when described as OEM.

Hi all.

The Black bars I have fitted are identical fitment to the genuine Vw ones so they do not affect jacking points at all.
Hi Jay if you are considering to buy the genuine Vw, I personally think if you consider all your costs incurred, you may well be able to buy three sets of copy
Bars or one set with money left for some other goodies for your camper.
Personnel choice ?
Mark looks like we could be twins if we remove are badges ect.:bananadance2
Your camper looks great also, candy white does look good with Black accessories.

I've just bought a set of these in gloss black from Vanstyle. I know their mild steel but at £130 a set i'm not too worried. Spray a bit of waxoil in them before fitting & i'm sure they will be fine.
If you really want rustproof maybe buy the stainless ones and paint them?
