Child Car Seat

Read test reports & google for crash test videos for the seat model that you intend on buying.

Our youngest (8) uses a Bubblebum inflatable booster. About £25 from halfords. Originally bought as it was the only booster that fitted properly in carbon fibre seats in my Lotus. Its comfy to sit on & takes up very little room, & if deflated takes up about the same room as a folded T shirt.

Also very handy for use in hire cars abroad if your flying anywhere.

For the first year of my life I was carted about on the parcel shelf of my parents’ car, my older brothers on the bench seat without belts.

I’m confident that my children in any EU approved seat for their age, height and weight, if correctly fitted, will be many times safer than I was.

You were lucky - you had car.
Until I was 5 i went in the sidecar along with my sister whilst parents went on the motorbike.

I used to get put in the boot a lot. Thankfully Dad had a hatchback!

Yep boots and footwells, 6 school friends for parties etc. Spoilt our kids with a seat each!

Thanks for all the advice.
Ended up ordering the Maxi-Cosy AirProtect ISOFIX.
The boy tested it out and seemed happy and comfortable. Its fairly light, and not to bulky...
Btw Mammas & Pappas £119:thumb

Have been numerous years to Switzerland and south of France on the backseat, unbuckled, together with my sister.
Still alive and kicking.
Just put your kids in the playground behind the backseat. Attach the child safety net, that came with the California, between the headrests and the roof, and they are safe, and can play whatever they want there.

DON'T TAKE THAT ADVICE !!!

Traffic nowadays is more hectic than 30 years ago, but still, travelling 1000 km in one day, unbuckled? Our parents were very lucky nothing serious ever happened.

Roads have never been safer. Deaths are a 40% of what they were in 1990, and were 4.5 times higher in 1966.

Roads have never been safer thanks to safety systems, child seats, helmets, and so on...

We used to get around on the bulkhead behind the front seats of my auntie and uncles Spitfire...
Different times.

We just got this maxi Cosi titan from Halfords it first with isofix and is really stable.

Previously we bought the recaro hero which straps with just a belt but found that the car seat tilted sideways when we went round corners.

The guy at Halfords checked the fitting of the recaro hero and was surprised, we also tried the it in our be touran and fit was better but not great.
Halfords let us try seats in our cali Beach until we were happy with one.

The isofix was the best fit even if a bit fiddly to put in and out when sleeping. We find that if you tip the bench seat back slightly it helps with the fitting.

The seat we chose can be seat belt fitted at an older age so will see how that fit is when the time comes.

We are happy with this seat and I am sure fitting in and out will get quicker with practice. Glad we persisted and selected a new seat with isofix.

It seems that you know yourself around maxi cosi seats? Would you recommend the brand? Are you happy with it?
I wouldn't have imagined that getting a car seat will take up weeks of my time. There are so many to choose from with all different specs. For weeks now I'm on the hunt. The amazon reviews are so polarizing some say that the car seat is not good and dangerous while other say it's the safest thing ever. Then I tried looking for blog reviews. Those are pure pitch fests and never mention any drawbacks. As my last attempt i was looking for best articles. Finally I've came across a blog that seems to actually try and test car seats. I've read this best maxi cosi car seats which one of those seats would you recommend?

Tips are welcome

Maxi Cosi has always been a brand I trusted for selecting car seats from new born to now age 5 for cars and Cali's.

The maxi Cosi seat we had ended up with the plastic moulding for the between the legs bit coming lose and falling out. Also we experienced some difficulty pulling the required strap when tightening the belt.

The seat we had was no longer available but we got a refund from Halfords so now we actually have a britax roamer (from Mothercare) for the van.

I would recommend Halfords though as they checked various car seats for correct fitting, and refunded us when we had problems.

The britax roamer is less bulky than the maxi Cosi and a little more suitable for the van due to this, but falling asleep involved a lot of head nodding now! We still have one maxi Cosi remaining in our car and this is minus the head nodding when sleeping!

Hope this helps

Pic maxi Cosi left brittax roamer right.

When we expect rain, we always store the 2 child seats vertically in 69 position on the driver's seat. Works great and the steering wheel keeps them in place. We never swivel that seat around anyways, so works great.
