Long time lurker and now committed!! After much research from trawling this site:
Just ordered a 150BHP Beach Tour Edition DSG
After much deliberation and disappointed that they aren't producing a RHD version I have ordered a LHD Beach Tour as am likely to be living in Europe for the next 4 years. Also as it's no sports car I don't really mind what side of the road I sit on. Had a LHD T4 Multivan a few years ago when I was in the UK so this will be a bit of a change.
So to the Spec:
6.1 Beach Tour Edition in Standard Red (Edition includes LED lights, Comfort Dash and a few other things)
DSG
3 Seat Bench in Rear and one extra seat (Total of 6)
Digital Dash
Cruise Control
Discover Media Sat Nav
Winter Packet Plus (Parking Heater, Heated Seats, Heated Washer Nozzles)
Replace Left Sliding Door with a mini Kitchen
Front and Rear Parking Sensors
Rear View Camera
Removable Tow Bar
Black Awning
All Season Tyres (235/55/17)
Spare Wheel

Picture below from the Configuration on line.

Hopefully arriving sometime in June. Now what else to buy for it........

Very nice.

Think the Edition vehicles look superb, pretty sure that they aren't available in the UK though...

Looks great. What is the comfort dash on the 6.1? I thought they had gone back to having just a single, more open, hard wearing design?

Looks and sounds great! :thumbVery exciting! Its been said many times but its such a shame that the beach wasnt offered here. With its mini kitchen option and overall excellent flexibility it seems a huge miss on VWs part.

Has that god a black roof? I really like the idea of a red edition :)

Looks like a great spec too, winter packet looks like a great option and I like the deletion of the second slider as I don't think I could cope with a Beach with two doors :)

Design is a subjective matter I know but IMO VW have replaced something that had a simple but effective symmetry, an air of quality and was pleasing on the eye with a "sow's ear".

Yes, it's different, strikingly different and some will love it for it's avantguarde looks. However, is it as practical as the previous dash? And are you going to want look at that mess of random lines for the next few years? If something is slightly wonky it drives me mad. With the T6-1 dash VW having taken wonky and put it on steroids. Personally, I think they are trying too hard. It's basically a delivery van.

There, I've said it.

Not overly keen on all that black in the lower front bumper.

Apologies for my poor attempt but i think this mod makes it look a lot better!

Thanks for the comments. Edition not available in the UK and yes it has a black roof.
Meant to say Comfort Package not Comfort Dash. This consists of:
  • "Bright Brushed Gray" inlays
  • Allergen filter
  • Air-conditioning system "Climatronic" with 2nd evaporator, 2nd heating, climate roof and additional controls in the passenger compartment
  • Multifunction leather steering wheel (3 spokes)
  • Dashboard comfort (lower part in palladium) with chrome applications and black painted panels
  • Painted door trim
  • 2 x 12 volt sockets in the dashboard

Any updates or photos on this? Did it arrive and how is it, or did Covid-19 get in the way? Thanks.

Hi Borris, I thought VW had standardised the dash across the range to cut costs and agree much preferred the comfort dash on our T6.

Although a few delays to delivery we went up to the factory in Hannover in mid August to pick 'Ludwig' up.

He certainly is Red and happy with the colour that certainly stands out when you park it.

Not managed a night out yet but certainly picnics and bike trips. The space also proved useful when moving house and it tested out its van capabilities! Very smooth cruising at speed and up to 170kmph as well as a fully loaded 850km trip across Europe with no difficulties.

Very happy with the spec ordered and don't think we missed anything out.

Just need to work out some accessories now. Have foldable kettle and mugs for a quick brew. Am looking at getting a topper for the downstairs bed (it's really not that flat) and some storage containers so using the very valuable insights on this site to make a decision what to get.

Realistically don't think first big trip away will be till the spring given who Europe currently is with COVID. Might plan some local trips away when time allows especially as we have the heater to take the chill off.

Have attached some pictures on collection day and with the bikes on the back. Our bike rack is a non-tilting version which is likely to be another purchase in the future so we can get in to the boot.Beach 6.jpgBeach 5.jpgBeach 1.jpgBeach 2.jpgBeach 4.jpgBeach 3.jpg

Van looks great. Congrats!

Reading your first post, can you please confirm whether the only way to get a 3 seater Beach with built-in kitchen is to order Beach Tour and specify it to remove the sliding door and add the kitchen (per your first post above)?

Or is there a Beach model avail in Europe that has 3 seat bench and kitchen as standard?

Thanks

So initially tried to order a Beach Camper with the 3 seat bench. But couldn't. With the Camper I could get an extra single seat in the back but not the 3 seat bench. Something to do with the Camper being taxed as a Campervan in Germany and the Tour being an MPV.
So had to go with the tour which had the 3 seat bench and twin sliders. I then deleted one of the sliders and got the mini kitchen in its place. So as far as I am aware that was the only way to get the 3 seat bench and the mini kitchen. There may be other options when it is introduced in the UK but guess you'll have to wait till the configurator comes on-line.

Hellow
very beautiful bus, great color and nice dashboard. Everyone has their own taste and the opponents of the bumpers, dashboard or whatever may say whatever they want: we also ordered a cherry red T6.1 california (coast) and think it's a very nice looking camper van! :thumb
Greetings

Thanks

Thanks for the response, really helpful. Did adding the kitchen change the tax classification for your Beach Tour in Germany, or did it remain classified as MPV?

I appreciate UK may approach classification differently to Germany, but good to understand nevertheless

Still an MPV!

I suspect UK will follow the same (if the delete sliding door/ add kitchen is even an option offered here!).

Thanks again and good luck with your new Cali

They may well have done. You may have gathered that I don't like what they've done. It's probably just me but I think this is a classic case of "If it ain't broke don't fix it". That's one of the reasons why I bought one of the last T6s.

Thanks for updating and all the photos. It does look great. Love the colour too. VW New Zealand is not sure whether the Beach (Camper or Tour) will be available here at all. Apparently they didn't include it in the initial T6.1 California vehicle order, and are only now considering it due to public interest. Probably the example of the full order of 30 Australian Beach Tour vans selling out in the matter of days after the online-only release might be getting VWNZ to have a rethink. VW Australia press seem to indicate that the California Beach Tour is now sold out in Austrtalia until June 2021. Maybe we'll have some on the NZ market by then. We'd be keen at the right price.

Hi @Thebears - can you confirm if you have EHU capability. The flap that is usually on the rear LHS seems to be missing in the pics. Thanks.

Morning, No EHU on my Beach Tour!
Leisure battery charged off the alternator. Not sure if the Camper version is the same or not.
