Rather than taking to the roads looking like some form of brightly coloured be-goggled pond life, a nice bit of Tweed might make all the difference to the road manners of all concerned.

I'm getting the hard work done in the basement, but I'll out in the woods on my MTB today in complete solitude and controversially wearing winter lycra but with a lot of merino and gore, isn't that same stuff you old buggers on here wear when you're out hiking (or walking very slowly) somewhere unimportant?

The cycle tracks near me are busy with dog walkers and other pedestrians. So far more dangerous than the roads at present, dogs on the loose and people that it's very difficult to keep 2m from. Spending most cycling time (alternating with some short fell runs) on my new gravel bike, I can ride routes on and off road seeking out the quietest bits of my locale.

Loving the new bike, so versatile! I could do these rides on an MTB but much slower, harder work and less fun. I don't think you'd regret getting one.
The view is at the top of my 'big back garden', 10 miles from the door up and then 10 back down.

I would rather MTB than road cycle. But my local cycle paths and woods are now full of people out getting their daily exercise, and it's impossible to keep any distance.

In terms of reducing coronavirus spread, road cycling seems the better option.

I’m still not convinced on Gravel bikes.
Better than a mountain bike on the road, but I much prefer flat handle bars for tougher terrain. I feel I have more control...

What’s the difference between a Gravel bike and a Cyclocross bike?
I bought Specialized Tricross some years back as a multipurpose bike but find it too ”road” biased.

Gravel bikes are basically touring bikes with wider tires.
Bit of a fashion fad IMO...

I still prefer a hard tail, lightweight mountain bike over a gravel. Happy to sacrifice a bit of on road speed for off-road, go anywhere ability.

Just been out for our daily walk and we were nearlly mown down by a chap on a bike silently approaching from our rear at speed. No warning call, no bell and absolutely no consideration. I've nothing against people cycling but only those with common sense. The rest are a danger to themselves and to others.

And before anyone says it the same goes for all other road users. At least you can hear most of them coming.
