Ebersprächer during night...

@AndyWT - I'm new to the forum but see you seem to have much experience with these heaters. Mine is factory and hasn't been used in 10 or more years (previous owners say they never used it). I have a 1995 T4 California with a gasoline 2.5 liter engine. My wife and i were in Norway last year and the heater would have been a very welcome option had it worked. So, I'm wanting to get as much info on it as I can. Such as error coded or error lights and what they mean. I'm very sure I can repair it if i know more about how it works and what components it has and what they do.
How do I find out the exact model that is in the van? I figure that's a good starting place.
Normally there is a sticker on the door or B pillar with details of the heater fitted, if factory fitted. O RHD vehicles on the Drivers door. Not sure if VW did that for aT4s.

PR code on the label will only mention if it has parking heater as an option or has the winter pack, ie parking heater, heated seats, heated mirrors etc.

But 1994 is a bit unknown being a gas engine, it should have a petrol heater, look underneath is it the size and flat shape of a suitcase, it’s B2LP if so it’s obsolete, if it’s squarish/roundish and long it’s a B3LP, there are some parts available from Eberspächer but some are VW, you may have to go to a Eberspächer specialist, painful on €€€ but may give quick answers if fixable, rather than someone poking it with sharp stick etc

No worries at all there.
Just make sure that your sliding door is shut and you
can keep cosy for about 2weeks in there.
Don't use the heater if you have a driveaway awning attached close to the van, it'll fill with the exhaust fumes. I read somewhere in a post last year someone nearly gassed their dogs that were sleeping in the awning.

The exhaust is on the opposite side to the sliding door

I have a T6 (sorry, didn't realise this was in the T4 forum) and the fumes on mine come out on the sliding door side. There are many others in the forums who also have this problem. Maybe the T4 is different.
