Closing the rear door on my new 6.1 requires a an extraordinary amount of effort. The averrage lady certainly would not manage the task. Has anyone else experienced this ?

If mine (6.0) has been open for a while in hot weather it is the same. Very heavy to close. I think it's something to do with the viscosity of the hydraulic oil.

Its the pressure increase of the gas.

It can also change considerably if you have chairs/bike rack on it/in it. We tended to store things inside the gap inside the folded seats, like a thermal windscreen cover and small set of steps. This helps (a) declutter a bit and (b) makes the tailgate slightly heavier so it is easier to close.

Trying to close it without the chairs or any of that stuff in is really quite tricky though

my method is to pull it down far enough to be able to very quickly transfer my weight onto the top side of the door. In 40 degrees temp it is quite an effort and have needed more than one attempt.

As above, but come winter you’ll have the opposite.

My Mrs manages ours ok, if I were to call her average it may be my last post.

I experienced the same and I'm at the gym 3 times a week!

The dealer showed that standing to the side of the door and closing with one hand was actually easier than when standing directly behind.

I was wondering, is this why so many Cali's have the tailgate bike rack permanently attached and folded? (To add a weight assist when closing)

You can always add a few bits in with the chairs. I keep a couple of beach brollies in there in summer.

I’m 6’3” and a man but on my new Coast it required a big effort to get my tailgate moving. I think they are designed this way in order to take load. I have since fitted a bike rack and it is a bit easier to close now due to the extra weight. I think if it was easy to close with no additional weight it would be too saggy with a load.
