Hi all we have just relocated to UK from the channel islands and are applying for a V5, our van is 3 years old in August, the tax band we have been quoted is £1650 its a California Beach CA 6.1 is this correct? just had a shock at the cost

It looks like they are registering it as a car.
£1650 is the first year registration tax for a medium emissions car, 2nd year would be £190 possibly plus the over £40k list price penalty.

If its registered as a motorhome it would be £345 first year tax & the same for subsequent years.

The problem you may have is that under the dvlas rules a beach or even an ocean does not meet the criteria for being registered as a motorhome. I understand that VW have some sort of agreement with DVLA to get round this for a new van, but you may struggle with a secondhand one.

its not a second hand one! its ours from new we are just importing as we have moved here, i told them it is classed as a motorhome on the channel islands V5 equiv

Replace second hand with “used” its a new uk registration therefore 1st registration fees are due.

Who has filled in the V55/5 ? as it doesn’t sound like it’s been accepted as a motorhome home / motor caravan.
