Can't see the front drain holes on 2024 Ocean

After heavy rain with roof down I found the front passenger seat drenched. Water dripping from the roof. Went to check the drain holes. I found the two at the rear but I can't any at the front. Water pooling and probably breaching the joint with the canvas. Where are the front drain holes on a 2024 ocean ? I checked for them once everything was dry and still could not find them.
Thanks

The drain hole is under that black Gunk

Presumably you are not the first owner of the vehicle?

There are many many posts showing how the roof drains should look.

Have search using the spy glass top right.

If you can't find any relevant posts with pictures, repost and I'm sure someone will assist with a photo or two.

Here is a thread with some pics to get you going

Do Not be tempted to poke anything into the drain holes - see other threads - you can cause the tube to be become disconnected, causing leaks within the internal trim panels

Cleaning up there is always an option

I know this has been covered to death but, I think the best option is to unblock from the bottom where the sediment collects and blocks the exit.

Sorry to hear/see you are having issues with rain coming into your van - I have a 2024 model Ocean and the drain holes were filled at the factory - I assumed this to be a modification across all late vehicles? It was not the case with my previous Californias - that all had drainage holes that I checked were clear a few times each year

Thanks for this. I always pop the roof after a trip away and clean all around top and bottom. But if you hadn’t posted this I wouldn’t have noticed the front drain holes. My passenger side was slightly blocked. This fixed it a treat with hot water and a bit of Milton. Will check regularly now.

One thing. I noticed this rubber grommet on the ground near front driver’s side after cleaning the drain. Is it coincidence or have I somehow removed it with cleaning? (Could of been there weeks tbh)

Should be through a hole in the roof scissor mechanism. Towards the top front. You'll find an identical one on opposite side.

Under the plastic covers on your 2nd pic there not good to see but there right next to the black wiring stuff. Try a zip tie first there 2mm in die id say. Look at the back of the van there you see the rear ones that are just the same size and clear to see. The front plastic covers come off easily.

You know looking at all that black silicone looking stuff I’m wondering if your previous owner has blocked the holes with it? There’s no where near that much silicone on mine and it white. I recon they have been mistakenly blocked. Too much silicone there.

...just checked my 2024 Ocean (in case I was imagining things) and the drain holes are 100% blocked with a non-setting black material - and this is from the factory. My previous California(s) 2013, 2018, 2023 all had drain holes, but not this one!

Look like rain coming through the roof, as there are now no drain holes, is how life will be from now on! Designed in from the factory :)

Free to all and designed in from the factory :)

Our August '24 registered Ocean looks like the pics from @andywa119 but there are definitely drain holes there as I've tested them when soaking the threads on the canvas!

You must be right then!

I did not think to think to test them...they are well hidden and the plastic trim piece had been bedded in to the black stuff, so I thought this was best left as is.

I did notice that the white aluminium roof perimeter piece has been lowered as it reached this area, not sure if this was always the case? That would have the effect of letting water out as well as the drain holes (good idea VW).

....well i'm wrong again!

Just checked and just as I expected...the water I poured into the corner ran away and appeared at the front of the wheel arch - just as it always did on earlier Californias!

Fortunately I am well used to being wrong... so no damage to my pride :)

Whilst I have been cleaning the relevant area - vacuum first and then cleaning cloth - I will now add to the ritual my handy squeezy bottle I used for earlier models! And check it runs free to the front of the wheel arch.

Thanks for the correction!
