Hi,

I am due to pick up my Ocean next week and suspect it might be affected by the leaks.

What's the best waterproof roof cover to buy? I see there are many different types, insulated, internal, external etc?

Is there one that does everything, waterproof, insulated from cold and hot external temps and also would protect from the rain?

Thanks

We have the Rainbow, works well but large to pack and a slight faff to put on.

If it is a brand new Ocean it is very unlikely to have leaks.

Once search is back up next week, you’ll find plenty of chat and reviews on here about pop top covers.

Unlikely to have leaks - I would not put money on that!!

We use the Comfortz one (get VIP membership and it'll pay for itself and still give you a discount in the shop on buying one!). It's very good, waterproof and insulating too. Faff; to an extent, but it's not that tricky if there's two of you. I have a folding stool (a tall one, 45cm high or something) which slots into one of the chairs in the boot and makes it much easier. Takes less than 5 minutes to put on and off. Yes there's a bit of bulk, but it goes on the rear shelf when travelling (dead space otherwise, along with the sleeping stuff) then if not needed at the site, slide it onto the footwells (again, more dead space).

Similar boat - new 6.1 collected last week and ours leak (during hose test but not light rain).

Can’t recommend pucer screen enough. I can thread it through on my own in 3 minutes (although I am quite tall). Very light and folds small, comes with waterproof bag. Cheaper compared to alternatives and 2 days delivery as well (I know rainbows attract a bit of a lead time?).

I was put off the Cali topper because I can imagine it flaps in the wind (as wind can get underneath and lift the whole thing up slightly). And we’re considering solar so they don’t mix. Additionally looks more of a faff to put up.

Thanks,

Is that fully waterproof and a thermal screen too for cold and sun?

Our Cali is 2 years old and the bellows leak

Hi,

Hi, if it leaks, contact Rhiannon at VW Group Customer Care. She will offer you £500 towards a cover. No questions asked, no proof required.
This is an embarrassment to VW group and they just want you to keep quiet about it and go away.
Even the latest 06S bellows have failed the VW quality control procedures and don't get me started on consumer rights and warranties.

Rhiannon Owens offered us a £500 contribution towards a pop top cover after telling us the bellows are not covered by the VW Commercial Vehicles warranty

How was this administered? Buy first, send receipt, receive contribution? Or receive contribution, pocket cash? ;)

I've been in the leaking bellows conversation for a while maybe you just didn't know it.

I’m not the one that responded to a post from last April, just before it all kicked off.

Nevertheless, you need to raise with the dealer and VW and using you extensive involvement with the conversation you should be able to get it sorted.

I have received an offer of a £500

please accept my apologies. I have had conversations with the dealer and VW over the last 2 months. The outcome is a £500 contribution to a pop top cover and explained as the bellows not being covered by the VW Commercial Vehicles warranty

I am still trying to fathom out why bellows replaced under warranty are no longer considered to be under warranty. Usually if a supplier fits a faulty part as a repair, it is replaced with a non faulty part under the same terms. Perhaps someone with a bit more legal knowledge could clarify that for me?
In the meantime, I have no idea about the claim process as it just seems incredible that VW have to resort to a third party product to resolve their issues.
I also find it incredible that every VW Campervan owner expects this to be a problem.
I wish I had a Reimo pop top - they are fully functional!

Are they?

Common Reimo pop top problems include issues with alignment leading to gaps and potential leaks, especially with the canvas and around the ventilation windows. Other concerns involve paint bubbling on black roofs due to poor curing, noises from the strengthening frame after installation, and degradation of gas struts on older models. Users also report wind noise from misaligned roofs and the need to keep the canvas re-proofed for heavy rain, as the roof is not designed to withstand severe weather when elevated.

Maybe I just had a good one :)

We may also be getting off topic.
