Bought our brand new California in May '24 with the 5+ service deal.
Now got 6,250 on the clock with service due in 488 days/14000 miles.

As I'm heading off into Europe for a three month road trip in April, I'm considering pulling the 1st service forward.

I'll probably clock up >3,000 miles whilst away. Any views on whether it's better to wait until I return in July or go on fresh oil?

Cheers

Is the interval not Officially 2 years 20k miles had mine since March last year only 4K miles was looking to wait a bit as a compromise dealer has sent an e mail to get it done now Any advice people

Now that the engine is fully bedded in an oil and filter change will not hurt and can only do good.

You don't necessarily need to use a dealer , but as you have the services included you may as well, if you go for a non VW franchise or DIY just make use to genuine parts and Correct spec oil.

It might sound counter intuitive, Less mileage = more frequent oil change requirements.

The long life service is designed for commercial vehicles covering large amount of miles (it's a marketing scheme for Fleet managers)

Annual oil change as a minimum would be best if covering very low mileage like yours.

I agree about annual servicing rather than long life. I do long trips in Europe but it sits on the drive in between - only done 200 miles since December 3rd!!

Was just wondering whether to get it changed before or after our next trip?
Guess I might as well do it before...

I've always stuck to a 12K or 12 month oil change with my last 5.1 which did 143K trouble free miles. Now I have my 6..1 my p!an is to go for an intermediate change at 10K.

I've always been of the opinion long life servicing was introduced by manufacturers for reduced fleet service costs.

We got our California in March 24, now coming up to 1year with just over 9,000 miles.
Not officially due 1st service for another 12 months. I've booked her into our nearest van dealer for a mini service. Oil and filter change and general inspection.
Going to cost £210.
I was advised by a VW mechanic that its worth getting an oil and filter change more regularly.

I would agree fully with all the comments re: annual oil change if not covering a lot of miles.
Dealer can update service schedule reminders if requested.
As @Perfectos has stated, for non-franchise - make sure quality oil is used.

We were told you can insist on an annual oil change service as part of the Service plan. As far as we know, that happened at the first 12 month service.

If you purchased the van with the 5+ plan included you can have an annual service
We got ours last March and it’s booked in next Monday with 7K on the clock
Annual oil / filter change can never be a bad move

We are doing the same as we are heading off in the Summer for a 3 month expedition from May. We have booked Brian the Beach Boy at Breeze Poole for an interim as 1st service on the 5+ offer. If Breeze recommend, then we may switch to every 2 years.

Let’s hope the drive to Poole is worth the effort for good customer service

It's always a good idea to get your vehicle serviced and up to scratch before a long road trip. That way you'll be more relaxed and confident.
