So I took mine in today, and the salesman / manager agreed to buy me a poptop cover if I wanted to keep the vehicle , or also agreed to cancel my contract if I wanted to.
Do we think vw will replace these bellows eventually ?
What poptop covers are best if I decided to go that route ?
I am currently working on a solution similar to this with Volkswagen at the moment as a momentary resolution in the interim.

I’m awaiting the response from Brand to put this into place.

I've seen this one recommended. No personal experience.

Comfortz VW California T5 SE, T6 & T6.1 Ocean ‘Cali-Topper’ Roof Cover - CampervanBits (vwcaliforniaclub.com)

Did you watch them do a water test and if so any info on what they did? Are you prepared to name the dealer or PM the details?

I can't conceive how VW would not fix this tbh, but what do I know?

If my dealer offered the same I'd wait for a fix because you have 6 months to reject if the fault can't be cured after 1 attempt. If they deny there's a problem I might get a bit angry and demand an immediate rejection!!!! No court is gonna side with them based on the photos and videos. I'm just glad the water didn't run down the walls because there's presumably a whole heap of additional problems awaiting that eventuality.

My dealer (vw Liverpool) I think was fully aware of the issues.
They where all
In agreement of cancelling my contract or finding a solution in the meantime.
They said they’ve supplied covers before to other customers.
I’d be happy with this solution as long as some replacement bellows become available over the next couple of years.

Weren't you rejecting the vehicle?

Yes. I have that choice . But if they supply me with a Cali top and put knew bellows in that don’t leak I’d be happy.
I don't believe that is what you said previous, but tempers flare in the heat of a 70K purchase and hopefully you get it sorted soon. As with all of the people affected.

Looks like in the meantime (most) dealers are getting the gist, VW on it and the recommendations raised here to wait for an actual fix (why people are getting them replaced without design change and expecting some other effect is beyond me) and offering protectors seem to be catching on.

There have to be a few lemmings. It's those people who will make VW sit up and take notice.

What You implying?
The fact that the bellows will hopefully be changed and the fact my dealer has given me written confirmation that I can still reject it if they don’t come with a new bellows design has helped my change my mind.
So in the meantime I will have the Cali top to stop / help with any leaks.
Doesn’t change my mind that these vehicles are awful and have Far too many faults for a 72k purchase.

I'm noT implYing AnythinG!!!!!

You said you were rejecting. You said you would not accept a pop top cover. You're not and you are.

Which is fine - it always was the sensible position.

It's ok, you're mad, as was Higgins, your number one fan, and IMHO, if your opinion is
these vehicles are awful

then I'd bid you goodbye and would rather you left the forum which comprises of enthusiasts and advocates trying their best to help people and having to deal with some who are only here for a rant.

GuD lucK!!!!!

Hahaha we all have opinions, and forums are there to give those opinions - right? Whether people like or agree with someone’s opinion is irrelevant .

That is the beauty of the internet, anyone can use it.

That is the problem with the internet, ANYONE can use it.

I completely get the disappointment and frustration of having to deal with an issue like this after parting with over £70k. I feel it myself…! I think it’s understandable and only to be expected that people are going to find it difficult to keep things in perspective and always make the right decision first time. These are big decisions to be making given the amount of capital involved. There’s no need to lambast people we don’t even know because they changed their mind about something and showed a little emotion. That is surely to be expected!

Interesting thanks - mine was also from Liverpool, in June 2023. The first stance of the sales guy was that the bellows are only showerproof (!) and I have yet to hear back to my two follow ups with them. Hence fired off an email to VW UK yesterday seeking their opinion on things, for which I currently wait to see if I get a reply.

Like you, I would be happy with the interim solution of a bellows cover and the reassurance that they are working on a replacement.

Implying what?
Never judge a book by its cover. Because I speak my mind, does that mean I shouldn’t use the internet?
Ive probably got more degrees and qualifications than yourself, But hey ho. Like I said We all have opinions. Sweet dreams xx

They didn’t mention anything to me about being showerproof .
But if you get in touch with vw customer care , you’ll soon hear from the dealership.

I’m guessing English is not one of your “multiple degrees”.

You’re one step away from telling me to stop taking the blue pill and “do my own research”.

Hopefully your bellows get fixed soon so we can see the back of you and your “awful vehicle”.

Fully agree. Hopefully yours also gets fixed soon and you continue to bring your considered view and coming experience to the forum.

It feels like, from considered members responses, that things are finally moving, if no light quite yet.

Makes sense now!
I thought you were on some form of medication!
