Air conditioning failure. What price comfort?

Air conditioning has just failed on our 2015 T5. We've only done about 40000 miles so were a bit shocked to hear that we'd need a new compressor-at a cost of £1000! Does this seem unreasonable-either the failure or the price? Is it worth getting a local garage to source a suitable replacement or should we stick with VW official dealership and parts? We're out of warranty.

Don't go to a garage, go to an Aircon specialist in your area and they may be able to repair the compressor for much less :)

I’m not sure about the Cali - first time I’ve heard of one failing to be honest - but the aircom compressor failed in our Honda CRV and that cost £700 to fix at a specialist or £800 at Honda dealer. So £1000 doesn’t sound entirely inconsistent.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do some research.

There are loads of companies out there who supply these compressors. Also loads who exchange/repair the broken one. If you do some googling you will be able to save yourself a good few quid. Just get a reputable garage to remove/refill those bad gasses. Peace.
