We prefer to sleep downstairs, so I'd like to limit this thread to that if possible. We like a very soft comfortable bed and over the past ten years we've been around the block on this with so many different set-ups and now have a prefect set up that suits us. "Prefect" because it is almost perfect
.
We use two self-inflating air mattresses side by side with a zonesleep made up with an attached sheet (duvet cover) over the top. The whole operation to put up and put away takes 5-10 minutes. However, one of the mattresses sprung a leak when away on one occasion and to cut a long story short, it caused us problems. So, while comfortable, we no longer see it as practical for our 6 week forays into Europe. So what's next?
At least 3 options for us, and you will all probably have views and other ideas (please).
1. I'm really tempted by the Calibed Prestige III, with our zonesleep on top, but it seems extremely expensive when compared to a couple of alternate DIY solutions we're considering.
2. Buying 3 sections of 10 cm thick GB41M foam from GB Foam direct (or other online foam company) would probably cost around £180 - £200 depending on a few options on their website. They can make a cut in the foam for the rear cut out too. We would just put some fabric around these foam pads and then use them on top of the seats (perhaps connected by some velcro patches) with our zonesleep on top.
3. Search Amazon or Ebay for "trifold mattress" and interesting options appear (like the photo below).

None of these seem to be 115cm wide but if it's just foam, I'm wondering if we'd be able to cut a bit off and make the cut out for the rear and then make good by recovering. It's not like we'd have to contend with springs and wire running around the outside of it as there would be with traditional mattresses. Of course, the trustee zonesleep would go over the top too.
Someone on here must have had a go at one of these DIY options????
Very interested to hear about it and people that have tried other options before the Calibed Prestige III too.
