Any ideas - Eberspacher?

It really shouldn’t have taken 3 x VW dealers with access to wiring diagrams etc such a long time to detect the problem.

As I’m out of warranty I’m considering where to go next for future servicing etc, dealer or local VW specialist. Jury still out.
A creative mechanic able to do some good old fault search and independent thinking is worth his/her weight in gold. But it saves the company time and brings up profits to just swap the stuff that gives fault codes, even if the faults are often due to connections between the afflicted parts.
Insanely frustrating, and the garages failing fault search and fix your simple fault should feel ashamed.

Regarding the "VW dealer or local garage", we just had the glow plugs, particulate filter and a sensor changed. The VW dealer quoted it at 4 000 euros.:shocked

The job was to advanced for our regular (great) local mechanic, but he referred us to another local garage that did it for HALF of what VW quoted. Using quality parts, giving full warranty on the job AND picking up / leaving the van at our home.

Its easier said than done to find reliable and skilled mechanics, but my advise is to look for a small firm from word of mouth. As a bonus you support and get to know your community.:)
