Hi,

We miss Ben our lovely Labradoodle . He passed away just over a year ago at the age of 17. I am retiring in October and we both want to get another dog.
We are looking to get a Bernadoodle. They are quite a large dog. We are wondering if it would even be practical for us to go about in our Cali Ocean with a large dog.
I would welcome anyone's experience of travelling with a large dog.

So sorry to hear about Ben.
We have been travelling with our bernedoodle Bertie for 3 years, Until now we have had a T5 Transporter conversion but have recently upgraded to a California.
On the road Bertie travels with the bed down so he has space to stretch and move around while he is securely attached to the seatbelt socket and wearing a harness.
He also has the downstairs bed for sleeping while we sleep in the pop-top.
We have to pack quite a lot of extras for Bertie; towels, bowls, toys, long lead for when parked up on campsites, food, treats, outdoor bed, etc which does slightly restrict us on storage space...but we pack very lightly anyway.
The only real problems occur in wet weather...having a large wet dog in a confined space can be challenging...but this is outweighed by all of the positives of taking him everywhere we go.
He always attracts lots of attention so makes our stays far more sociable and fun.
Travelling to Europe by ferry requires booking well in advance as pet friendly cabins get quickly booked. We tend to cross by eurotunnel for this reason.
If you are looking for a breeder for your bernedoodle we can thoroughly recommend Springwell Bernedoodles in Kidwelly, South Wales

What a lovely looking dog. Thank you for the information. Whilst no two dogs are the same and socialisation is critical at an early age. Is he quite chilled out? The breed characteristics I have read about imply they are fun but chilled. We wouldn't want to have a dog that barks all the time for no apparent reason. It would make us a little uncomfortable camping.

Thank you.
Bertie has such a good nature, very calm and friendly...loves attention and thinks everyone is his friend. Loves to play with other dogs and his toys...chasing him round the garden table is his favourite. As you say training and socialisation are so important...especially for a large dog. He is very strong-willed almost to the point of stubborn...trying to get him past a cheese stall in a French market is a real challenge...until the stallholder eventually falls for his charms and gives him a taster or two!
