Auxiliary heater remote pairing

I don't think you can use the same Fob.
This thread might have some details.

I think (don’t quote me) this might be slightly older tech?
I’ve been through all of the VW documents I can find and I think the Telestart/overhead controller are now replaced by the R149 thingy?

…….unless VW just rename the Webasto Telestart as R149?

Where’s Loz when ya need him?

Before I start, I searched and it seems this was the best thread to resurrect.

So what I’m looking to do is get the engine coolant heater running WITHOUT the engine running.
The unit I have fitted is the Webasto Thermo Top Evo so it’s perfectly within its job description.

I have the R149 Aux coolant heater remote receiver fitted.

My question - Can I use the remote that came with the van which is currently paired to the other air heater for the van interior ie de-pair it and pair it to the other heater (using VCDS).
I’ve not tried yet , just curious if anyone has tried.

I tried to speak to Butlertech on Friday but they were busy. I’ll try again on Monday.

If the answer is no, then the next question is what’s the part no for the correct remote fob for the coolant heater?

Mainly on the T6.Forum.

Wow! I’m on page 8 of 29 of a thread detailing all of this!

So Loz, if you do see this……..

Did you ever confirm it’s simply a case of adding a switched 12v supply to pin 1 of the 17pin red connector under the seat?

As per your posts on the T6 forum?

There is a lot of chat about LIN bus etc but I agree with you, R149 appears to be simply a remote control switch!

I can’t work out if the heater unit needs re-flashing or not?

Just in case anyone wants to follow me down this rabbit hole, here’s the bones of it.

It looks like the T6.1 doesn’t need flashing. To be confirmed.

Has your coolant heater been flashed with the correct software? The person that made the Youtube video that you posted goes by Eugene on the T6 forum.

No. I’ve been studying this all day and it seems UK vans have the non Nordic spec firmware.
That’s a fairly easy fix.

What I’m trying to figure out is what the output is from the Telestart module ie a Linbus waveform or just a simple 12v? Linbus is 12v but is it that simple?

I’m not too fussy about having the remote, a simple switch will do, as long as it fires the heater.
The correct firmware will take care of the circulation pump/cabin fan blower etc.

I could throw £500 at it and have it done by an adult but where’s the fun in that?

Have a look at this link:

My German is pretty good but that’s maybe a touch to far. Does it provide anymore Intel than the 29pager?

Ok I finally made it through this German thread.
Very useful indeed.

It does shed some light on the “Heat Immediately “ and “Heat Continuously “ thing, something that never really made sense to me.

It seems, once the water heater is flashed and the coding done, the Heat Immediately function controls the water heater and is switchable from the main dashboard screen under the Car function. Nice.

There are two very knowledgeable guys on that forum.
I’ll make contact and arrange a visit next time I’m in Germany and let them flash/code it. They’ve done dozens of 6.1s.
The wiring of the remote is simple.

One otter thing that cropped up is the size of the starter battery. Nordic spec units from the factory appear to have a larger one fitted to accommodate the heater running.
Many thanks Alied.
