Auxiliary Space Heater not WORKING

Hi,
Checked and it's showing that the Eberspächer is selected as in your photo.
I believe this is the space heater and not the engine heater which I think is the Webasto.
Thanks again.
Correct. Eberspacher is your problem air heater. Something must be loose or unplugged. The heater lives somewhere under the van near the sliding door behind a shroud. It's strange it does nothing at all. If it was fuel or a pump it would still trya startup so you would hear that. I suspect something at the heater itself has come loose. Be good to know what the outcome is

Hi,
No success this morning, the VB Suspension people were unable to sort the problem.
They checked all their work and nothing was untoward, and said they couldn't access the space heater controls (tamper proof they said), only VW could.
Rdv made with VW for the 12th of March.
Thank you to everybody for their help.
I will update when the problem is resolved.

Bet it will be a very minor issue like a lose connection ,....
And we will all say , ah oh yeah that ....
:D

UPDATE.

My local VW dealer SOLVED the problem.

It turned out that one of the 3 plugin connections on the back of the Control Panel wasn’t plugged-in!

This was obviously an easy fix; they just plugged it in and everything is now back in working order (heater, frig, roof..).

VW said that the Control Panel had been removed to allow an aerial/receiver to be fitted in the vicinity of the Control Panel.

“Light Bulb” moment, I also had a vehicle tracker (GPS/Sim) fitted recently, and I know that they fitted a microphone to capture any possible conversations by the potential thieves, they must have fitted it in the central overhead Control Panel compartment area. They have removed the Control Panel module and unfortunately only reconnected 2 out of the 3 plugins et voila.

So nothing serious and nothing to do with the VB Suspension after all thank goodness.

All’s well that ends well .

Thank you to everybody for your help, you really are a great bunch of people :thanks.

Many thanks for closing out the topic with a resolution. I wish more would.
We can now add "has anyone removed the camper control unit?" to our list of diagnostic questions.

Hi LOZ,
I really should be thanking YOU for information on the various Cali Fuses that I found in the club’s download section.
I’ve downloaded, printed and plasticised them, and they now live in the pocket behind the passenger seat. Great job.

I have recently bought a VW Cali camper and the auxiliary heater does not work. It says "heater is not connected' I have tried to reset etc but to no avail. I took it to VW who said no error code came up so how could they fix it if no error code comes up?!? Very helpful...
Does anyone have any suggestions please

Disconnect all batteries (starter battery and leisure batteries) and reconnect again. Better?
Then you have to double check that it is connected. Have you done that? Easiest to start behind the control panel. There is suppose to be three wires connected. You remove the control panel in two steps. First unlock the “mid panel” from the sun glass compartment, then the control panel by manipulate som tabs from the back of the panel.
Checking the wire to the unit will involve working underneath the vehicle, removing splash guards and so on..

Thanks Emil,
I will try that. All new to me...

Which VW dealer was that? Not a very professional response!

I think this is a typical response from a so called technician who cant fault find these days because his computer cant tell them what to do. I mean didn't they try it.? Surely the error is that it isn't working? Try somewhere else or have a go yourself with the tips above. I have heard of the plug coming out behind the control panel also. Good luck

Have you checked the 2 fuses that the heater uses?

One is under the passenger seat camping fuses and the other is in the fuse box under the gear lever.

Yep. It clearly says heater not connected, but as there is no fault on their machine they have nothing to ix (apparently) Anyway, I have found a garage that does electrics but they are on holiday until next week. Fingers crossed they can help me.

HELP! I have now been to an auto electrician . He is not used to VE California. He says he cant see I have a heater as he cant find it nor can he see the exhaust for it. I thought all VW calls had an auxiliary heater. Am I wrong?? On the rear view mirror when I scroll through to the heater it states "heater not connected" I have been told to ring VW customer services with the reg and chassis number to ask for the build code. Problem is the van was shipped over from South Africa so not sure if I can get this info. I am new to all of this. I would like to get the heater going if it has one...not sure where to turn to now.. I am in Sussex, UK

If it has an auxiliary heater installed from the factory, there will also be a sticker in the door, one for the auxiliary heater (often Webasto AirTop 3500ST) and one for the engine heater (often Webasto ThermoTop C).
The auxiliary heater is underneath the vehicle, behind splash guards, right underneath the right hand side front seat...

European Californias, full Camper, do have Diesel Parking Heaters as Standard, But South African imports, maybe not.
Have you got Heater vents in the vehicle,
1. Drivers side footwell
2. Base of the B pillar behind drivers seat. RHD Vehicle.
Like these.

For shipping the batteries would have been disconnected & fuel tank drained.

If the heater is fitted, hopefully just a case of checking all the connections.

Hi, Thanks for your response. This is what I seem to have. There is no sticker on door regarding any heater. I guess it was never fitted with one?

Thanks for your response. I do not have a sticker on any of the doors. I guess I do not have the heating fitted. I do have two leisure batteries and the person I bought it off said one of these was for the auxiliary heater. He also explained it used the diesel and to keep the side windows closed on the left hand side of the vehicle. This of course led me to believe there was a heater in situ...

and I cannot see anything that looks like a heater underneath. Bit odd though that the garage (who had it elevated) did not say this to me when I had asked about the heating?!
