Bed extension stuck in almost vertical position (6.1)

We are going away in a couple of days to stay overnight in the van. We keep the bed extension almost upright ( as far as the ratchets allow) so that we can fit in dog crates for everyday use. It’s been as in the photo below for a few months. The issue is I now cannot get it back down, it’s as though the ratchet system is stuck / it’s been lifted too far. Any suggestions ?

I have checked California Chris’s videos on lifting up the extension & removing it for the extra van space but didn’t cover the problem

normally pull hard on the strap and try lifting just a little more should do the job

Thanks, yes that has worked in the past, but this time its as though the strap won't lift any higher & release it back down

Sorted, many thanks Roger, I gave it one last try, lifting with more force, but this time from inside the van (rather than reaching into the boot) and it's released & gone back down.
