Can any one explain the correct way to slide the rear seat to make up the bed. I usually sit in middle of seat pull lever and drag using my feet. This does the job but makes like a ratchety sound, I’m sure I saw a VW video where they stood out side the sliding door lifted the lever and slid it forward easy peasy I can not get it to budge using this method.

Am I doing something wrong ??

That's the only way I can do it too. My back / arms just don't seem to be strong enough to do it from standing outside. I just shuffle along the floor on my feet. Sometimes it doesn't want to come, but if I pull really hard on the lever it does it. Two years in and I'm getting better at it … !!!

Verity does yours make the rachety noise ??? I’m sure I also read it should run along the rail silently and smoothly. 3+ years in and still trying to achieve this.

You’re not pulling the Lever hard/high enough so the locking tab is not fully disengaging.

I think they do sound like steel heels on cobble stones but the walking method is best. (footwear of your choice)
It is necessary to really lift that lever as far as possible but rackety ratchety unavoidable, IMHO.

Thanks WelshGas I have tried pulling it harder/higher but maybe I am still not being tough enough with it, will give it another try.

Ha ha GJ you crack me up! I've decided to do sober in October. It's 6.30pm, my husband has already poured a gin and tonic and my resolve is weakening. It's not looking good …..

Hey! Good Luck and you are one of many going Stoptober.
You know it makes sense yet I personally am trying to remember how not to do my 'it's five o'clock somewhere' routine.
:cheers
I guess i had better stop using that emoji??

I had to pull the lever with both hands at the weekend to get it to release the seat. is there any way to lubricate the mechanism to make it easier?

Good evening,

For a while it made the same sound moving the bench.

I also thought that couldn't be right. I believe the difference is that not only that the lever has to be put up properly, but if I sit at the edge of the bench it always makes this nasty sound. If I sit properly with the bum to the back of the seat I can move the bench very quietly.

Regards,
Eberhard

Eberhard thanks, maybe that is the secret, it’s where you put your bum. I am normally nearer to the edge so now I have two things to try.

it’s where you put your bum.

Well, there were a lot of bums on the edge of seats at the weekend’s club meet. Around 930/10pm there was a chorus of ratchety bench seats moving, accompanied by the hum of heaters. We giggled. :D

Made it! 2 large glasses of orange juice. That's just a bit like wine, right? Both acidic … hope I don't get heartburn in bed! I'm not an alcoholic, but I do have a glass (or two) of something with alcohol in most nights, and I know it's not good. Sorry, this thread is meant to be about beds not booze!

The one usually end up creating the need for the other so linked ..........sort of

You did well to resist the alcohol I have a nice Guiness

I think that the ratchety sound comes when the seat is not
full on square with the runners.
I added some lubrication with a straw through the rubbers on the
track and it works like a dream.
I can slide the bed/seat into place whilst standing outside.

Westfalia that sounds perfect so it is possible. if I could achieve this it would be amazing. Do you think a squirt of wd40 on the tracks would do the job.

I do it the same way as you no noise though, are you pulling and holding the leaver up enough? also I would think if raining doing it from the outside you may get a tad wet.

Of course, if its pissing down you would slide the bed
forward whilst inside unless you had the awning out or
a good jacket on.:thumb

Lubrication attracts dirt and grit IMHO ,
better left ‘DRY ‘.
Coat, hat etc...:cheers

No. The bed just runs on top of the tracks using wheels. The Rachet/Locking mechanism is below the tracks within the rails. When you pull the Lever upwards it pushes the locking tab Downwards. On the underside of the Rail, on which the bed wheels run, there are a series of teeth into which the locking tab engages. If the Lever is not raised sufficiently then the Locking Tab rubs along these teeth giving the noise.

I can also move the bed forwards and backwards whilst standing outside the vehicle and without the noise but normally I sit on the bench properly - not on the edge, pull the leaver and walk forward.

Ok thanks again for that information I agree maybe lubrication is not a good idea, I will try pulling a bit harder on the lever and sitting on the seat properly.
