"Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

At my work we recent got a ”high speed bike ” or “speedpedelec” as we call them here in Belgium , to use for workers who like cycling and prefer taking a bike instead of a company car for short work-related trips.
We have a range of cars (fossil fuel and electric ) and (electric) bikes , now added a speedpedelec that go 45km/h
These are very popular here in Belgium you can get over 0,20€ / km driven to work and back home payed on your salary.

I had a testride the other day and with my electric bike (25kmh) my 18km ride to work takes about 42min , using the Speedpedelec it saves me 10min doing a average of 32kmh!
Downside is that you need to ride on the streets in sevral places between the cars , you need a licence plate and insurance.
And the fact they are not cheap ! The one we got now was 6000€ !

I like the look of theses, basically an electric moped? brilliant.

e-bike regulations are really becoming an obstacle here in the uk.

@willwander , yes you can say it is sort of a moped .But you need to padlle or no support is given from the engine .
you need to be 16y old and a moped licence at least , once you have a drivers licence (18y) you are also allowed to ride these.
They are in fact pimped Ebikes , but the decent ones are the ones having disk brakes , twin battery , special wheels/tyres,....
Don’t they ride in the UK ?
We have regular pedal assist, low power e-bikes, but these speedpedelec would be classed as motorbikes and need full registration, tax, MOT, Insurance, CBT license etc. All this would be difficult to obtain because there is, as yet no precedent for this class of vehicle, so you would have to do it all yourself.

You would then be basically be on a motorbike, so would not be able to use cycle lanes etc.

UK ebike, escooter regulations in UK currently seem like they obstruct rather than encourage adoption.

I got myself a new toy also , new 2nd hand that is .
A Cowboy 2 electric powerd bike , almost 2y old done only 400km payed half of the new value .
My brother owns one also from new and i was looking at 2nd hands for a while but prices went to high , until last week i spotted thisone , i went to pick it up within’ a few hours or some else stole it away...
Company from Belgium started raising funds in 2017 or so to start up and in 2018 the model 1 came out , big succes ever since .
the current model is 3 and prices went up even more .

I have a Trek Hybrid and Boardman electric. The electric is fantastic as if tired I can still chance a ride. Also you dont know how hilly it may be where you stop. I travel to and from Spain and cycle quite a lot in Spain. But the best thing is the dog loves it...

Ouch!
What did you hit?
Well I’d love to say I was getting all “Brendog” but it was just one of those “sniper” incidents. Fast downhill, never saw it coming. Wrong tyres/confusing ability with ambition? Any/all of the above.

Hope you don’t mind me asking how do find the Boardman? I’m tempted to add an ebike and fancied a Ribble CGRe but long wait time. Boardman has same e system I believe and is readily available.

Love the Boardman. Gearing is superb. Electric is just a nice assist.. All good except the battery can come loose a design fault. I love the Fazua system. Get a test ride at Halfords... I rarely use the Trek now....

Slightly off topic, Apologies if already been done to death elsewhere. Well into our 60's we have just invested in a couple of Specialized Turbo Vado SL's, still getting a workout but without the pain up the hills and against the wind. We are very pleased with them.
Have the standard VW Bike Rack, and weighing in about 17Kg each, they are ok for lifting on and off.
Thoughts revolving around my head just now are:
1. What sort of hook-up solution are others employing for charging when camping. Figured a Y Splitter/trailing socket will be best option!
2. What security measures have others employed? Have put them on the Insurance policy, & do have some decent locks, but I can't seem to figure how we can go off for a walk, or out for a meal leaving them locked up on the rack or in an awning/utility tent and feel pretty confident they will still be there on our return. We have always taken bikes along previously, but at a total value under £1000 only, compared now to several £000's, it would hurt to lose them.

Congratulation on your new bikes, they look stunning!

Re 1: I would try something like this splitter:

Cheaper: https://www.reichelt.com/ch/de/cee-plug-to-cee-earthed-coupling-cee-ada-00504-p156645.html

Re 2: When buying something so expensive I would check with my insurance to cover more or be sure my bikes are covered. Down here they often are happy to cover more/sell more special products (special Ebike insurance).

Happy ride!

Anyone fancy a weekend of wild camping and mountain biking in South West Scotland at the end of June?

Spooky just spent the day at Glenlivet bike trails!
Hired an emtb £40 for the day, first time I’ve been on one properly.
Great fun.

The people who run it said it’s ok for vans to stay the night in car park (£4 for 24hr’s), loos are open 24hr’s too.

Cafe’ is open 5days a week, great cakes! (Shut tues/weds) 10am/4pm at mo

if I’m still up here maybe interested :thumb
