Buy now or wait for T6?

I thought long and hard about whether to wait. I ordered my T5 in November and have been told I should get it around Easter. Probably, the biggest factor for me was that "devil you know / the new one is untested" argument. I say go for it now. If the new one is that great you won't mind selling and 'trading-up' in a few years time.

My thoughts exactly. Let the new one settle in and trade up in a few years time.

If you are going to buy now, you have till friday to order. If you don't go new, the price of used will go up dramatically as the demand increases, so my advise would be order new, and in the long run you will save.

The T6 isn't out till the 4th quarter of this year, and thats only the panel van, all other variants are going to be at least six months later. It wouldn't surprise me if the Cali is the last model to come out, and you could be looking till mid 2016 for it.

Good luck in whatever you do and decide, whichever way, you will love it.

This Friday for last t5 orders!! Oh wow! No pressure then. So far I've called 4 VW van centres who don't sell them. The local Vindis St Ives didn't return my call. Based near Cambridge so any advice will be appreciated. Or do I simply call Drivethedeal?
Read up on Adblu, thanks guys, never knew it was needed, and definitely don't want or need that. T6 may suffer probs, my latest RT 1200 BMW certainly did; all were taken off the road in the early summer by BMW. So I guess it's going to be a late T5, preferably manufactured once the roof issue was sorted ; so either new or 2014? I shall carry on calling tomorrow.....

Racingt - Have you tried Robinsons Van Centre in Norwich? Or I think Peterborough too.

<<< Hence my 2013 Hex Head Triple Black GSA rather than the WC version......

Hi racingt; I bought Ariadne from Bury St Edmunds Volkswagen van centre, so just down the A14 from you - ask to speak to John Clarke. I had a really positive experience buying from him and I would highly recommend a phone call. Say that Maud sent you - John worked out who my forum persona was when we talked about my dogs once :D

I know what I want to do and that is go camping. I am not a vehicle expert nor an investment pundit. I am someone who simply wants something that works.
I think you have the essence of it there Jen :thumb

Having sold our superb 174bhp 4-motion last autumn, and had a fruitless search for the right 1 year old model to replace it, we have today ordered a new 180ps DSG 4-motion. I held phone/email negotiations with 4 California specialist VW van centres, and ended up buying from Guy Vincent at Preston van centre. If anyone else is doing the same thing this week, ahead of Friday's closing date for T5 orders, and are looking for the best deal, I would highly recommend that you speak with either Guy at Preston, or Lewis Jacobsen at Hereford VW van centre.

Well, we visited a showroom, test drove and bought one :)
The idea has been with me four or five years already, don't want to wait any longer....
Pickup in just over a week....

Maud, met John this afternoon. Deal done :)

Great news, Racingt! Where did you buy from in the end and what colour have you gone for? :)

Oh you beat me to it! I'm really pleased for you and glad that you have got everything sorted so quickly - no long wait to start using it ! :)

Bought from John! 180 DSG, in black, one year old. To be honest, black wouldn't be my first choice of colour, but it's not the worst either, and looks pretty cool.
We weren't actually planning to buy, but my wife really liked all the features and a test drove clinched it. I was thinking a 140 would be fine, but, well, it just drive really nicely. No idea what to do with it when we get it!

Mine is a 180 DSG too and I love it - so easy to drive. I'm not normally that taken with black cars, but I think the Calis look great in black - especially when super shiny; very smart. It must be so exciting to go in, see it, drive it and buy it there and then, knowing you only have to wait a week! This next week will whizz past with all the Cali shopping and planning to get started with! I'm really glad that you had a good experience with John at Bury too :happy

Racingt. Take it here...

Nice pic Cannalwalker!
Still blown away to be honest, but got the feeling we could have scoured the country looking for used Calis and not found better, so I think just jumping in makes sense sometimes. And I had been wanting one for years!
If the order book wasn't closing, I would have waited, so thanks for all the posts on here helping me make my mind up.
For me, it's about freedom, rather than another possession. The thought of being able to go off, somewhere, cycle, or dance, then just stay without the hassle of finding a B&B is going to be great. lets face it, some b&bs are wonderful, but most are not so good, and camping in tents in the uk isn't great fun.
So yippee!
Going to check the calendar now for Wiggle sportives, and far-flung dance events:)

Hi rancingt, good for you guys ordered ours at Xmas and have same intentions of being able to travel to various events. I live near the New Forest Good and can recommend the Wiggle New forest in April - Loads of nice camp sites, or IOW which is a great event July I think.

Enjoy

Hi Andy, entered the wiggle Jurassic Coast in May, wouldn't be doing that without the Cali. Pickup on Monday, insured for £288, bargain!

Well, after one week of ownership, which included 3 days away, with daughter staying one night, I have no doubt that buying the T5 was the best move for us.
It's really well thought out, the practicality is superb. If the T6 is an improvement, then it surely cannot be a great one, because as a package, this looks hard to beat. Wife loves it already!
So thanks guys for your input and encouragement; without it, I would not have made that decision!

On days like these (Matt Monroe?) I'm glad I've got any California, T1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 :D

What a Cali is for, impromptu trips to the seaside:)

Thats what i call a nice parking space....:thumb
In Belgium you can not even park your Cali on the street in the coasttowns without getting a ticket...
Here they forbid to park any campervan to park on the streets , you need to move far away to the parkinglots or go to a camping . ( at the seaside)
No way you can get a legal shot like that in Belgium.
No wonder every camper or campervan owner crosses the French border!
