Cali damaged after airbag recall

Just wondering if anyone has had the side airbag replacement recall done on their Cali and if you have - are you happy with the work?

Mine went into a local VW garage a couple of weeks ago for another issue but I was told about the recall while I was there and had the airbag changed. Unfortunately there were some issues that I only noticed once I got home.

1. Big scratch on passenger sill where the seat bracket must have made contact whilst being removed.

2. Nasty Scuffs to the passenger B post next to the 'birthmark'.

3. Black marks on the fabric on the back of the seat. Fairly small but show up easily on the pale seats. I've had Inka waterproof seat covers on since new so this is a bit annoying.

4. Badly fitting seat fabric where the covers were removed and pulled back on.

I found time to take it back in today (although I did call them and send photos as soon as I noticed) and they will arrange a repair for the sill and contact Volkswagen customer support to ask what can be done about the seat. The service manager even said that he thought VW should be having the work done by specialists and it wasn't really a job for a commercial service department.

He also commented that the seat fabric wasn't really intended to be removed and refitted.

Just annoyed that this has happened while the van is so new - 4 months old and 2,800 miles (although it'd only done 1300 when the damage was done!).

On the bright side we've just returned from a week in Ireland and the Cali was amazing

Hi Dan
We had in front seat passenger air replaced about 2 years ago at Breeze Southampton. No issues with work carried out. The seat fabric went back on as good as new.
If your van centre was not able to do the work why did they undertake it? They damaged in they should fix it. The dirty marks and scratches are not down to specialist skills but care and customer service, the age and miles covered makes no difference to how they should treat your van after 4 years and 57000 miles I would feel the same as if my van was a week old and damaged by someone's poor workmanship.
No question they should put it right

Four words:
Back to the dealer.

Ok. Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm in the process of writing a letter to VW customer services so hopefully might get something done.

This post seems to have been moved to the recall corner, more appropriate I suppose but I was hoping for some advice of T5 and T6 owners in general and not just those searching for recall threads!

Write to the dealer principal first he might be more responsive to you before he has been called by VWCS ;)

Don't worry about the post being moved, most read all the new posts regardless of location..

ours was replaced a few weeks ago without any issues , I even wondered if anything had been replaced. How do I know it has been done ? . Anyhow nothing was damaged during airbag replacement.
