As we are in a quandary as regards continuing our membership of the C & M club, thought I’ld seek current views on the subject.
Over our six years of ownership we increasingly use Independent sites, preferring smaller and quieter locations,
And given the pricing of C&M sites we haven’t really found membership that beneficial.
What do others think ?

Havoing spent a faire bit on club membership, and printed cantalogues, I now use Google for Europe. Search maps for a location and then directions.

We spend much of our time in Scotland so c&m sites are thin on the ground, the c&m sites we see are often much more expensive than Indy sites or our preferred free camp or aire. BaysBrown where Flying banana was, is a great Indy site and the farmer good at dealing with poor behaviour being a good example.

We have continued our membership. We used them in France 3 years ago and saved quite a lot of money at one of their campsites. We also used a certified site this year.We also use independent sites. Although it is quite expensive they do provide useful information and are a form of industry "body". For now we will continue our membership.

We don't really get our money's worth as we usually go independent, but currently on the Edinburgh site as I forgot to book the last few days of our Scottish trip and it was the only place with space (Tattoo/fringe means it's mad here). Just really repeating what's said, you know what you get, a bit pricey, but have to say this particular site is excellent. We'll renew for the convenience of last minute bookings etc.

You've not used the CL sites then?

Same here we have Cali and a bailey Vigo the average £55 a night on most CMC sites we use is getting to much for a trickle of electric, clean but mostly dated showers and toilets think we are knocking it on the head end of year and use other apps and private sites

I actually think, they have some cracking sites and they have invested in their facilities, such as new toilet blocks etc.
The cost between non members and members makes it worth while after a few nights camping.

I don't use their sites much however membership is only c. £63 for CAMC and less for CACC. That's a drop in Rachel thieves' £50bn ocean.
I would prefer the clubs are still there when we need them as it's easy to search and book, plus you know you can expect a good site standard with relatively few campsite idiots.
I like visiting Sandringham in the winter when it's quiet and many other sites have locked their gates.
Live a little. Renew your membership.

The inner city and town sites are really worth the membership by themselves. The CLs are a bonus. Big Sites with Play Parks are only frequented whilst schools are in! Definitely worth the membership.
Greenflag is cheaper direct!

You've not used the CL sites then?

We’ve just renewed and generally found that with discounts and occasional free nights offered it pays for itself. Just back from Europe and helped find a couple of sites there as well.

I have had this debate with myself every year since 1989 when I first joined.

A pound a week to have the resource of access to 2,500 sites often swings it for me but it is getting less and less convenient. Central booking apps like pitch-up offer me a few thousand sites, a good filter system, does not need pages and pages to scroll through to book and no membership fee.

Searchforsites gives me an even greater range with the click of a cursor.

Always my one argument in favour of CAMC was the consistency of facilities but to a very large part the rest of the world has caught up. My last big cycling trip with my late Jo, 6 weeks away and we did not use one single club site, stayed on some really superb independents and price comparisons were on a par.

I go through all these considerations, still harbour a lot of animosity to the arrogance displayed when they implemented that dreadful dogs dinner of a booking system, and when the time comes in January I will probably think "it's only a pound a week".
