I hadn’t noticed. Do people really take out 10 year HP agreements for vehicles? My mortgage wasn’t much longer than that! Definitely not something I would even think of doing.

I found the whole thing strange, they bought it without even looking around one.

If the issue was that they didn’t realise they couldn’t take a financed vehicle abroad, I’m not sure why they’d make such a big meal out of it and keep the reason a secret. It’d be an interesting thing to mention as I suppose they wouldn’t be the first ones nor the last ones to run into this.

I’m more leaning towards the “they’ve done something genuinely utterly stupid” like running an illegal lottery or failing to pay taxes and they got caught.
