Last year I had the control button fail due to spline damage, no problem I replaced it with one from the shop. However, I suspect this has been a gradually worsening problem, as I didn’t notice the onset, it now takes a fairly hard push to choose a menu item. Turns perfectly so I think it’s more panel related than button.
Anyone had this and found a fix?

Don't know why, but if I pull the button to remove it and then i push it back in gently, it seems to improve the situation.worth a try?

when you replaced the button, the screws in the circuit board need to be done up evenly and tight or the button doesn't go far enough to operate the switch on the board

Marginally!
If you remove the button completely, then you access the rotary switch (encoder) directly and using a screwdriver then gently test the function. The rotary switch only has very limited travel so you need to ensure if that if it is an after market version that the button hole has a physical end stop in it that prevents it bottoming out.

The push on after market ones can work to start with but over time they can get pushed further and further on and end up limiting the movement, most of the after market versions are designed purely to rotate, rather than be pushed.

Aha, logically that makes perfect sense. Thanks very much. I’ll disassemble and pack
Out the switch a little. I’ll also look at the screws as per @flying banana
