Email this afternoon from the dealer stating the van was on a ship and would we like it before Christmas? The estimated time was end of January or early Feb. Of course I said yes. Need to move swiftly on insurance etc but what a nice bit of news.

Woo hoo, early Christmas present for us :D

Sounds like great news, just about to order ours and wondered what your total wait time will have been when it arrives?

Cheers Nigel

I had exactly the same predicament last year but insisted I picked it up in January as it was then 2013 registered not 2012. I'd wait personally, it may just get you a couple of hundred quid more when it's time to sell. Also you wont lose nearly a months road tax.

Mine was a Dec 24th van. No regrets. We spent every night in it until going back to work in the new year!

likewise we picked up Dec 28 who cares about a reg plate number (it is the same till March anyway I think)
get it and enjoy it!
we also took the weeks free VW insurance till our Comfort policy kicked in!

yes, I was aiming for a Jan delivery too (ordered mine in early Sept) but then they said it would be ready in mid-Nov and there was no way I was going to sit around waiting for it...! So, stuff the hundred quid or so, and just get it and enjoy it - I am!!

Our order was placed 1st October and later informed of a build week starting 18th Nov, just ten days ago and its on the boat already. Not sure what route it'll take or what seaport VW use for imports but at least it'll not be lying in a field somewhere with the unsold saloons and hatchbacks. Transporter to Bristol, Heritages main Van centre and then low loader to Dorchester. Excitement is rising and like you no way we will be waiting for it till after the New Year.

What a good Christmas you will have Andy, your post got me excited as we ordered ours on the 9th October, have just had it confirmed that they are building ours on a build date 10th December, just spoken to the dealer who said it could possibly be here in December/New year.
So we could also be celebrating the new year with a new Cali as well. :D

Excitement about the "van" is slightly overshadowing Christmas at the moment and even this morning a trip out shopping to get a start on presents turned into a look around for bits for the Cali. All good fun.

:D Andy

Haha, us too! Most of our Christmas list is compiled of Beach-related items! We've always borrowed camping stuff before so now need to buy camping stove, led lamps, packing cubes, etc etc etc!! We're not buying each other presents this year; the van, drive-away awning, seat covers etc are going to have to make do as Christmas & Birthday presents for at least the next few decades!

The 18th of December for collection, night shift the night before but I doubt I'll sleep much till pick up in the afternoon. The dealer is small, friendly, but not a California specialist so I have some doubts about the two hour handover but with the help of this forum, downloaded manuals and just about every review made in the recent past I recon the Cali will be in full use in no time at all.

:D :D :D

A horrible rainy day in Dorchester made better by picking up our new Cali SE. Handover in under an hour, benefit of research and small dealer who rarely ever sells Cali's and a very nice drive home.

Happy Christmas to us :D

Superb! When did you order it?

I'm waiting for a car ordered on November 28th, looking to be ready in week 2 - the wait is half exciting but half torture!

Ordered 1st October and had a build week of 47, 18th Nov. Delivery a month after build date. The wait was torture but the grin on my face driving it home at last some recompense. :D

Ouch - a bit of a delay but you will soon be wondering how on Earth you managed without a Cali

I am not sure that the registration date would add value to the bus? Ours is Nov 2011 build first reg Dec 2011 .... was due to be Jan but came early so really don't / didn't feel any point in waiting!
As VW start model year in August ours is still a 2012 Model Year (though they do change stuff during model year still just to confuse the issue)
