What would you do?

What have the dealer said exactly about the bumper repair?

Well at first they were saying they would just get it sorted.

Then I pointed out that "sorted" didn't mean a bit of filler and paint and that I wanted new parts.

They then tried to wriggle and say did I realise that a new bumper would have to be painted as well.

I am very aware of the procedure required but my argument was that I didn't want filler on my new Cali

Do you think they will try and repair the old one?

The rear bumper will come through primed so it will have to be painted to match the vehicle, do you know if they will use a VW Approved body shop for the repair?

cheers

Good question, I just assumed they would.

I'm afraid the cynic in me would have been suspecting damage due to the initial delays.

I would be tempted to reject the vehicle and ask them to get you another or return to you any monies paid and go elsewhere.

Keep it in perspective ,if they put on new parts and use an authorised approved vw body shop then all should be well and you will be enjoying it soon .keep in with the dealer and get on with them, they will be getting to know you through all the issues you have had with them and trying much harder to keep you happy and not to upset you ,which is all power to your corner ;)

I could get quite emotional over such a litany of poor performance. The damage, for me, would have an effect out of all proportion, having a pristine new vehicle is an experience of joy but an experience paid for with a lot of hard cash.

I would have to go back to square one.

Why do I want a new vehicle?

Because I want something all new and shiney. Dear Mr VW dealer, please return it to me all new and shiney and pristine.

Becuase I want all the warranty going. Mr Dealer, please use genuine parts, genuine paints, no repairs, no fillers, everything replaced with new, warrantied parts.

Why did I want a delivery date? Because I have planned my life around that date. Please give me something to use to fulfill my plans with whilst you restore my vehicle to something new, fully warrantied, pristine and shiney.

Why did I pay you for a new vehicle? Because I wanted a new, untouched, vehicle. It is no longer untouched. Please compensate me for not receiving a new, untouched vehicle. ÂŁ1,000 may be enough, it may not, but fairly and reasonably you are entitled to something, a lot of something.

As others have said, calm, civil. There is nothing more difficult than having to negotiate with an almost-reasonable person.

Above all, my sympathies. I have enjoyed your posts on here, your excitement. Like a child in a sweet factory would be an appropriate phrase. Why should we not be children? We pay an awful lot to feel like a child on christmas day unwrapping a present and if you find the wrapping paper torn and what's inside not what's expected the feelings of let down are the same.

I hope it all resolves itself soon and we can get back to reading your posts as you find just what a joy a cali can be. I've just had a brilliant day today, now all snug and warm in Albert parked up just outside Llanelli and really feeling for you.

Jen xx

Why don't you ask to partially witness the repairs. That way you can be sure of a new replacement part and that work is carried out by the approved dealer. Quite often dealers will go for the cheapest option and contract the local dent repair specialist especially as they are footing the bill!
Just an idea....
I would definitely not take their word for it...
Based on your current experience you have good reason no to trust and if they don't let you partial witness then they have something to hide..

As usual Jen, very wise words!

I need people like you to mellow my thoughts.

I have been like a deranged animal over the last few weeks :smile

Kid in a sweet shop,  very true! But it's felt like window shopping for the last few months, I can look but can't touch.

I have decided to give the dealer one last chance to rectify the problems and make me happy! I am a fingertip away from freedom!

If this was my order I'd be demanding way more that ÂŁ1k.

Rich,

I feel for you. On the second day with my Cali with less than 200 miles on the clock, I noticed I had a couple of creases in the roof and had to have a complete new roof and bellows at about ÂŁ3500. See my tale of woe on here.

VW were very good about it, although I think a lot was down to the dealer - Citygate Woodburn Green and the service manager, Paul. Make sure you don't fall out with them and turn the situation to your advantage. Make them aware that most of the UK Cali community is watching your situation with interest and it is in their best interests to keep you happy :D

I have just had a call from VW customer services, asking me if I had spoken to the dealership?

I said "no,why"?

Their reply was brilliant, they have been trying to get hold of the dealership since Monday to make sure that everything was being sorted and that it was going to be delivered on Friday.

Apparently VW customer services have rung the dealership numerous times and left messages but no one at the dealership will speak to them :laugh2 :shocked

Are they trying to wind me up?

I think I would be starting to think about rejecting the vehicle getting them to re order and putting you in a loan California in Black until its ready on a 64 plate !! Or at least making the threat ,it will get them running around a bit :smile

I've changed my mind.

I'd torch the dealership and dance around that.*

dan
*please don't.

Well I spoke to the dealership and they said it will be ready for collection tomorrow!

I'm so excited :bananadance :bananadance :bananadance

Can you post a video of you collecting it? :thumb

Guess what, the dealership have said they are not prepared to to give me anymore discount and that it is not unusual for a vehicle to be repaired before handover :shocked

They became very vague when I asked them about the repair and said that they can assure me it have not had filler put on it because you can't put filler on plastic???

So I contacted VW customer services asked them if this was VW's stance on the matter?

Did they think it was acceptable to deliver a brand new car that had been repaired and not offer any discount?

They said that it was standard practice and they didn't see a problem with it!

I then asked VW customer services if they could confirm it had a new bumper fitted, you guessed it, no it hasn't!

Apparently the sales manager has said he is happy to refund my deposit and cancel the order but that is all they are prepared to do.

I'm not going to cancel the order, my family and I have waited too long and are far to excited!

What I will do is make Everyone aware of what I have been through as I think it is disgusting.

I have to say I really feel for you on this and I personally would not accept it.

Give up on the night rider look and buy one of the Bergs that are up on here or AT, tell the dealer where to shove it.

Ditto on that, refuse it and buy a Berg

Rich

Firstly cancel the order. I know it is disappointing and teeth-grinding for you but there are better people on this planet to deal with,

Secondly write to VW customer services, VW magazine, TopGear, the local trading standards, "Which: and every other consumer group on the planet, copying both the dealer and VW customer service with every email and every letter possible.

Send the dealer a link to this thread, and to any websites also carrying an edited copy of this thread, with the site owners pemission. I will for one be happy to have a link on my website. They do not like publicity. VW Magazine is also a good place to send as well as Camping and Caravanning magazine, caravan club magazine and Truckers world. Personally the pile of SH 1T landing on their doorstep should have no limit regarding height.

go to BVMS or someone and hire a cali for a couple of weeks, look on ukcampsites and obtain a list of every campsite that has a pub, bar, restaurant or bordello attached and go on almighty mobile bender, being careful to only drive sober of course, but there should be a couple of hours in the day when you are sober enough and free of blood alcohol so as to move from A to B.

I feel for you. A total abysmal abomination of custoner service.

I think you have reached the end of the line with them regarding getting any more discount out of them!! If it was me then I wouldn't want to bight my nose off rather ,I would just like to get me hands on it ...go all polite with them now and accept it and see if you can get them to fit a few items for free or something that won't cost them too much ,put it all behind you and continue to plan a few trips good luck hope it all goes smooth from now on
