Morning all. Anyone suffered a major loss of coolant from a T6.1 Cali Ocean? Our pride & joy (only had it 5 months from new) suddenly hit me with an EGR warning and the usual engine amber dash light just as I was parking up on my drive a week ago. As I wasn't to be using it for a few days I let it go. Then when jumping in to take our 2 4-legged friends to the vet on the Saturday morning all hell broke loose! Turned the key, still the EGR/engine amber, then red coolant warning then the same on the info screen!! Made an immediate call out to VW Roadside Assistance (very responsive by the way) they sent out an AA mechanic. While waiting for him as my drive had started to dry up, I noticed a wet patch in front of the OSR tyre. I checked it but wasn't sure. Mentioned it to the AA guy and checked and sure enough it felt like coolant!
Never for a minute did I think coolant went that far back on a front engined vehicle, however my brain then kicked in due to possibly the diesel heater. However I left him to it and he ended up there for around 2 hours removing the under sill panel etc and found that a short flexi pipe that comes from the steel tubing (not sure on dims etc) had completely perished an I had dumped the full contents of my coolant system on my drive. He completed a temp repair as he didn't have the right part (obviously), refilled the coolant but in his words he didn't reset the engine fault light as "the dealers usually complain that they have no fault record". Vehicle was purchased in Edinburgh but my nearest dealership is in Aberdeen (don't even ask me to describe how poor they were in dealing with the request from VW!
Vehicle is now due into garage this week, it can be driven as it stands until then.
Anyone had this issue before with a Cali under a year old?? Left a bitter taste on build quality and really disappointed to be honest!
Again I'll reiterate;
VW Roadside Assistance - have been excellent, even when the 'local' dealer was being complete numpties, and took complete control in getting me booked in and a replacement vehicle while the Cali goes in for repair.
AA mechanic - great professional initial contact, located, identified and repaired the fault very quickly to get me back on the road and provide a full breakdown of what's required from the Dealer.
