E-bike Charge - Not on EHU

The ecoflow battery will only charge at 100w/hr via the cigarette lighter socket ....so around 6-7 hours of driving to charge from empty. What I havnt tried (yet) is charging from the leisure battery when stationary on a sunny day...in theory the solar input from my set up should keep pace with the draw on the leisure battery.

@leeb thank you, interesting, so recharging takes longer than I thought.

I wonder how long it would then take a fully charged Ecoflow to then recharge a say 50% discharged 500w ebike battery?

On solar, which I was also considering, there are the standalone solar panels that Ecoflow supply (110w or 200w I think) or the larger roof mounted kit (up to three panels) from Roger Donoghue. It would be interesting to know how much faster the Ecoflow recharges with either of them joined in, as you refer.

That will depend on the bike's charger. My partner's 6A Giant (Yamaha) charger runs much faster than my 2A Orbea (Shimano) one.

Bike charge time is, of course, dependent on the output of the mains charger. Providing this is within the capacity of the ecoflow to deliver (my bike charger has a150w output so well within the ecoflow specifications) then the charge times will be the same as if plugged into the mains .
The ecoflow has a max capacity of around 700watts so the charge time, in hours, from the solar panel will be approx 700/watt output from your solar array.
Hope of help

Very helpful: 70 now, I feel like I am back in physics class, listening to Dr Sewter explaining what I should already understand, but it is a pleasant feeling - a little like riding a bike again as I do now, having been hardly near one for 55 years. Thank you for finding the time to respond.

I think an Ecoflow is the way to go.

I am thinking of an eco flow river 2 max to charge my eCycle Bosch battery. Picture of the battery and the charger attached.
Will this power bank charge my battery overnight? Or during the day if I get the solar panels?
Many thanks for any input.

It depends how flat your bike is going to be.

Generally you want your battery to work after it's cycle life has been reached so work on 80% capacity. So 410Wh. Assume 90% charging efficiency with inverter. So 369Wh. And you probably don't want to discharge to zero, let's make the discharge limit 15% .

You have 315Wh charge available from the battery for the lifetime of the device. Your bike battery is 625Wh.

Thanks for the reply, @yossarian
Bit uncertain about what you mean. Am I correct in thinking that this EcoFlow River 2 max will not work? And I need a more powerful EcoFlow version?

For the lifetime of the ecoflow you can rely on getting a charge from it's battery of about 315Wh going into your bike battery which has a capacity of 625Wh.

Wh are to electricity as liters are to diesel. So the ecoflow battery is good for about a half battery charge of your bike over it's lifetime.

More optimistic estimates are possible but the battery will degrade over time so it's wise to consider if it will work with a degraded (3000 cycle) battery. Also discharging the battery to zero will accelerate the wear on it. Typically we use a limit of 15% on a LFP battery to avoid going into the region where battery wear is high.

Okay, I get it. 1000 thanks @yossarian The eco flow will be fine if 100% charged up and applied to the the bike battery to charge it when c.2/3rd power is remaining in it.
Probably better to consider a larger capacity EcoFlow product (?)

It will work fine...I charge my specialised 350 watt battery with ease (speed of charge is limited charger specification)...your Bosch battery is larger but will rarely, if ever, be 100% discharged

i charge my ebike off my eco flow delta mini and charge that back up through solar via cigarette lighter socket or driving
