Engine fan spinning a lot on stops

Is engine cooling fan supposed to work that much and loud on a stop?
Also some weird smell from under the bonnet like something overheated.
Worries me the fan is working even when stopping in +10'c weather here in Norway.

Normal. It's the regenaration process of the particulate filter. If you turn off the engine when the process is running then the the van starts to work to cool down the exhaust gas system.
