Firestick extinguisher

Hi. Looking too place a firestick extinguisher on the B pillar behind the drivers seat. Any thing behind the plastic trim that would be damaged by say 10 mm screw

Yes! And if you find that it fits nicely in that recess I’d like to see a photo of that.

Thanks for posting, but your extinguisher looks a bit big for that location in our van. (I’m hoping that the Firestick fits snugly inside the recess).

Also, why do you not like the Firestick? I was thinking about upgrading the fire blanket that I keep rolled up in between the handbrake and driver’s seat. I’m open to having my mind changed and saving some change!

When I was looking at an extingusher, I asked the professionals and this was the reply
Hi Nigel,
Regarding your campervan, a dry powder extinguisher is best as the extinguisher can be used internally and also dry powders are effective for vehicle engine fires. What you do need to bear in mind however is dry powders will quickly reduce visibility and it is not good to breathe the dust so escape should be made first from a vehicle in the event of a fire and then operate the extinguisher from nearby the side or rear door.

Dry powders have very good knock down effect but do make a lot of mess. CO2 would not be advised due to asphyxiant risk in a confined space and water may not have as good effect as DP.

Stowed horizontally or vertically is fine. I recommend once a month just removing it and gently tipping the extinguisher upside down to loosen the powder and re stow. Hopefully never needed.

It’s the messiness that most put me off of an extinguisher. I thought that the Firestick was recommended by the Fire Service for us campervanners, but clearly not universally!

One question mark is that he advises leaving the vehicle before applying a dry powder extinguisher. That makes sense. But, if you have left the vehicle, it seems reasonable that you could then deploy a Firestick without risk of asphyxiation. (I’m not questioning his expertise, just trying to understand).

I carry a co2 and a dry powder. In the event of any fire my first thought would be to get out of the van. Once out the van can be flooded with the co2. Or dry powder, the least of my worries would be leaving a ‘mess’.

I guess it depends on the severity of the fire. The ‘best’ type of fire will be dealt with by putting a fire blanket over your toastie that has caught light . Others are more advanced, you run away from, don’t look back and consult your insurance documents.

I think that most people looking to buy some sort of fire safety device are most concerned about how to tackle something in the middle. If you can put out a small fire without then having to replace all of your upholstery then that would sound like a good option to me.

Apologies to the OP. I know that we are drifting away from your question - I really don’t know what’s behind there.

if you have any trim tools try prying the panel a little for a look, I’d imagine there are potential issues with screwing, such as the piping for the vents. Could you use foam sticky pads? I’m assuming it’s a holder that you would be fixing? Those firesticks looks decent, I’ve got a small powder extinguisher but I’ve seen the aftermath of powder extinguishers in my last job, they make a right mess and very easy to breathe in!

Why not the front of the drivers seat bottom? Sorry don't have a better pic right now, but you get the idea. Does not interfere with your feet or exit and entry into the van.

The firestick will fit there perfectly.
