First damage

Just taken this pic to show better, the bottom, bigger mark feels smooth so doesn't appear to have done too much damage, the top one you can see a bit where the paint is away (the darker area)

It’s on Amazon. T Cut sorted a big weird scuff on our drivers door. It was suspiciously the size of a football. It’s can achieve pretty good results in ten minutes.

Try toothpaste with microfiber cloth. Most, if not all of that marking should rub out.

They don’t look as bad or deep from this view. Try CIF, ceramic hob cleaner or toothpaste, you will soon know the direction of travel and whether TCut or other cutting compounds will significantly improve the appearance.

Don't think toothpaste or any abrasive without a colouring pigment is going to help much as the darkening is exposed base plastic and not transfer residue from the contact. White t-cut or equivalent is going to get the best possible results.

The point being made was that at £9 or so for TCut or £20 for a replacement shell in the correct colour as identified by Stu@rt at #2 above it would be worth @kernnowkarmann finding out if a cutting compound would produce any improvement in the paint finish thus worth a punt on the T Cut scratch remover or whether it was pointless and either replace for £20, diy rattle cans, film wrap, chips away or specialist repairer or VW OEM PART OR VW supply and fit (in probable increasing cost order)

(Any emphasis/bold in the reply is not my doing, iPad has done this all on its own and cannot edit to normal font)

The white pigment will be the key differentiator here. Simple abrasives will not help with the evaluation.

In my humble opinion, it is difficult to definitively assess damage from photographs alone so would not the best advice be to suggest adopting a hierarchical approach - starting with the cheapest solution i.e a cutting compound before trying the next option?

Now, I'm not going to worry about it: it happened and it's my own stupid fault. It will be repaired by the Volkswagen bodywork department and paid for by the insurance. Then only the memory remains. The pole has nothing.

I managed to reverse into this tree in our drive, I knew it was flipping there! £1,000 or so of damage, tree was absolutely fine!

The t6.1 rear collision avoidance should have applied your brakes automatically I thought?

Tested mine with a cardboard box when i first got my Ocean and it worked.

Sadly don’t have that on the T6, albeit I did have a camera and parking sensor but still managed to bump it.

Don’t know. I doubt it: while reversing? Although it was as if there was some kind of push back, but I suspect that this was more the resistance of the pole that I drove backwards against.

Let's face it. I guess that the tree was there first so you can't really blame it. Given the visual and audio aids fitted one has to question the awareness of the driver?
