Hi out there, fridge icon flashing on control panel, code 3001.

First thing to try is a reset of control panel.

Press and hold R lower button and then Press Button. New Menu appears. Scroll down to Diagnostic or Volkswagon. Select and view any codes. Then select Reset and back to menu. Switch Off Panel by pressing L lower button. Wait 30 secs and restart by pressing L Lower again.

Reset should read Clear.

For those of you who don't know, if you ever get any problems with roof stuck or any other error say with the heater, you are able to access the hidden menu in your control panel as used by the VW Engineers.

Access as follows:

1. Hold down the centre of the rotary button together with the menu button (button below with the squares on it)

2. You will get the hidden menu.

3. Rotate the rotary button to get to "VW diagnose" and select this by pressing on the centre of the rotary button.

4. If no errors are present it will display "no errors"

5. If Errors are present then a list of errors will appear (as listed in my previous post)

6. Press the centre of the rotary button again to delete all the errors

7. Repeat process above just to check that errors have dissapeared!

8. Re-configure the time and date if neccesary.

Any problems should be resolved assuming these are Electronic and not Mechanical.

This might help. J698 is the Refridgerator Control Unit.

Thanks WelshGas, would you know where J698 is ?
I’m not sure but think it is the Controller unit on the underside of the fridge. There is a company that can repair/replace these, called Penguin Refrigeration. Probably worth giving them a call. Apparently very helpful.

Penguin are a general supplier of kitchen equipment including fridges across the marine and motor home sector. The are good on the individual appliance but will not necessarily be up to speed on specific bespoke control systems as used in the California.

Does the fridge work in combi with this code ?
Disconnect the fridge and reset the panel without the fridge .
If no avail ,
I would try and disconnect the panel from power , take out the fuse(s) or unplug it at the back and see what happens .

Thanks hotel California, removed and replaced fuses no joy, unplugged and replaced all power cables under fridge, low and behold the fridge has power

@daz60 , glad you sorted it out yourself ....feels so much better than letting your Cali to a VW dealer to mess about...

Sounds as if the J698 temperature gauge wasn't making a good connection so the fridge couldn't work as it had no temperature data.
If the Temperature gauge was basically disconnected then the Error was probably cleared and immediately registered again as it was a persistent rather than occasional fault.
Glad it's all sorted.
