Goodbye Brussels, hello Burnley.

Maybe so, but remember I'm supposed to be Stupid and Geriatric so like to keep things simple.

I am sure you are none of those things.

"It [racism] can be seen or detected in processes, attitudes and behaviour which amount to discrimination through unwitting prejudice, ignorance, thoughtlessness and racist stereotyping which disadvantage minority ethnic people."

Goodness!

My Gran just used to call it being told to " off back to her own country...." :sad

Fortunately by Brits and not Gestapo,

:shocked

This surely has to be out of context.

It suggests that if someone is racist to a minority ethnic person in a way that does NOT disadvantage them then that is ok, which cannot be right.

It also suggests that you can be racist to a non minority indigenous person, say a white English person in the UK then that is ok too, which again cannot be right.

I think that this statement may relate to what he found at the Met. I cannot see how it can be a description of racism to fit all cases.

It has to be out of context.

What a lovely academic debate!

I really could not give a monkeys what Macpherson or anyone else says about the definition of racist or any other word and I'm not taking sides on who said what to whom. It is pretty clear that if you are using such words as fascist, racist and turd you are not issuing compliments.

Mike

Does that now mean that a Macpherson strut, is a bad thing?

I used to know a James McPherson, Professor and Pulitzer prize winner for his writings on the American Civil War.

He could teach us a thing or two about civil war sniping here :D

Nothing is simple when you are stupid and geriatric :shocked:eek::eek::eek::oops::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::oops::oops::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::D

The stress I have in my life striving with complexities as remembering what pills to take ....

I even have to be reminded what a pill is :sad
You are right Jen,
So many things start to fail, ears, eyes, brain, hands, skin, feet, etc etc the list is endless.
Simplicity is the answer though. Whatever the Doc says I take my pills in 2 lots, breakfast and bedtime. It does mean taking a cocktail of drugs at one time but its never done me any harm, harm, harm, harm, harm:eek::eek::eek:
And you don't forget:rolleyes:

Indeed. To glean the full context, read the full report.
What a pity that you could only make your point by quoting something out of context and thus giving a misleading impression of the person you were referring to.
. Suggest that you avoid that in future.

What's breakfast?:mute

I was not referring to anybody. I was referring to the Macpherson Report to demonstrate that the term racism has been "substantially broadened".

I thought I did so rather well, especially with the second extract: it is not intent which makes a racist incident, it is how it is perceived.

Perhaps you do think that you had done rather well and you know my views on that.

However, the second extract is something that many of us will recognise and, is, in fact a definition unlike the first.

Just because Elle MacPherson published her thoughts doesn't mean its correct, its like most things these days. Personal opinion is becoming the law.
The MacPherson Strut is what she used to do on the catwalk with a high g string on.

Here is Macpherson's definition of a racist incident:
A racist incident is any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person.
This seems an awfully broad brush approach if you are saying it is a general description of a racist incident. Is this not aimed squarely at the police and how they should react, rather than a definitive definition?

Ah, thank you, but what is a high g string? I have been trying to imagine it but the mind boggles.

That would be the drone sting (the fifth string) on a 5 String (Bluegrass) banjo. :thumb

In standard tuning of course if case someone wants correct me with alternative tuning :).

Now you are talking, that is real music. If you want to hear the right stuff go to the Star Barber shop in State Street Bristol Tennessee where on a Thursday morning the musicians sit round playing their banjos and guitars. It is great but don't get your hair cut there!
But, to,return to,the thread, how does she wear it? (Ella I mean)
