Grab Handle Above Front Passenger Window - Stripped Thread

Does anyone know a good repair for this please ?

The grab handle is secured by two self tapping bolts. One has stripped the thread in the thin bodywork above the window.

The design seems inherently weak as there is neither a nylon rawlpug/ clip in there for a screw to bite into nor a captive nut. 20220506_145702.jpg

Thank you

If you are handy with Diy, you could remove the bracket, peen over the rear face of the failed thread then Reassemble, using the original screw.
peening over the rear face will allow the screw to form a new thread !
or
use a marginally larger diameter screw (same length) (self tapper)
or
If the original thread is still partially intact but slightly enlarged : apply some thread lock to the original screw, reassemble hand tight into the bracket, leave to set
or
use PTFE thread tape

the thread in those brackets is designed to be only slightly nipped up, over tightening ever so slightly strips the thread in the bracket.

using the handle to support your weight will simply pull the handle out of the bracket ! Not the best design

Another possible fix is to drill the hole out and install a Rivnut in there, then replace the self-tapper with a set screw.

Here is a vid on removal of headliner,
note: to replace the bracket you should NOT have to remove the full headliner this is for reference only and to show the bracket fixings etc

Rivnut into the existing bracket might work but easiest solution is a new bracket.

(Rivnut is a rivet that has a thread through the middle)
