We were told the same by 2 dealers.

Its standard practice for deposit contributions to have time scales, but if deal is concluded and its simply delivery that's held up it shouldn't have any issues. They may however forward tax the Cali to last day in may, regardless if delivered in say August.

I also rang VWCS who confirmed this is true.
If anyone does get the bonus after May please lets all know.
My order went in on the 8th March and I signed a vehicle order form which states that it is a contract. It itemises the loyalty offer and there are no ifs and buts. I would be very surprised if I collect my Cali before then although the dealer thought it possible. If it is after the end of May and they do not honour it I shall consider it a breach of contract. Hmmm!

Thanks to phillme for the heads up as it is probably worth me having a chat with my dealer at some stage and for the fall back of forward taxing the vehicle.

My order was also 8th March, so am in same position as you Mike.
Can you please explain why forward taxing is an option to get round the May deadline?

I could guess but perhaps Geezso can give the answer. I am presuming it is registering the vehicle earlier. Either way there is no way you can pull a stunt to avoid honouring a bonus. I should imagine that for 95% of sales ordered by the end of March there is no problem. Cali is a rarity with such a long delay and something the dealer can sort out with VW. Not for us to be penalised.

Indeed Mike, manufacturers will push dealerships to register by end of may for example to meet a target for the event. Don't get me wrong some will be so early build that a vin is unobtainable so typically the dealers take a hit.
The two ways to do this is forward taxing were for example a vehicle is taxed early, the issue with this is that that the tax expires 12 months from that date and so does warranties. Servicing and mot are due on the anniversary of registration also.
Or the dealer pre reg any non sold units to take advantage of the back end money and hope to sell on as pre reg or demo. Same date restrictions apply apart from tax, as when a vehicle changes keeper the tax starts again for 6/12 months as tax discs are now non transferrable (as well as invisible)
I hope that helps and I've explained it. Remember its two possible options, not the only options. Technically the dealer could take the hit on the contribution but only if they allow it through upper quartile performance bonus throughout the year etc.
Gordon.

I agree with you on this. My order form has it clearly itemised and it even has delivery printed as 'TBC June/July', no caveats or anything on there.

One thing I would mention as typically any advert for anything motor related typically has some small print. A typical example would be *vehicles.must be registered/ delivered March 2016. This would not show on any order as there are an ever increasing range of offers/ ownership options. It would be campaign specific.

Thanks Geezso for your help

Mike

All the details I have seen refer to order date being before 31st March - no delivery restrictions. Given that VW are unable to supply vehicles in the sort of timeframe above, they would struggle to backout of promises already given. Few who have ordered Cali's in the first three months of this year will see their vehicle before the end of May.
There is a clear breach of contract if ordered on the basis of the loyalty bonus - no amount of T&C's will get them out of it once deal is done.

My dealer's webpage states:
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is thanking existing van owners for their loyalty and custom by giving them up to £1,500 off the price of a new vehicle.

Caddy customers will have £500 (ex VAT) taken off the price, Transporter (including the Shuttle and Caravelle passenger carrying derivatives, and California campervan) and Amarok customers will benefit from a £1,000 reduction, while those purchasing a Crafter will see a full £1,500 discount on their invoice. The offer applies to new vehicles ordered before the end of March 2016 (at participating Van Centres, see www.volkswagen-vans.co.uk for full details of eligibility and Ts&Cs).

The link goes to the VW home page, not T&C's. Search doesn't seem to reveal anything under 'loyalty bonus'..

Forward taxing??? Can't see how a vehicle, yet to be imported, can be registered and taxed...

If the vin number is available it can be registered and taxed.
Trust me it happens every month. Typically not a problem so much as its a week or three and with free or £30 rfl its minimal disruption.

I'll take your word for it.. All in the dealer's name, then purchaser second keeper?

the guy at citygate said that half of the loyalty bonus was from vw and the other half was from the dealers .... all his customers were aware that if they don't take delivery by end of May vw would not honour their half but his dealership would honour their half ....

No that would make it pre reg. Sometimes customers will receive the v5 for a car they haven't taken delivery of yet.

ps ... Smg say £1000 loyalty .... citygate £1200 .... stoneybroke quoting £1500

pps ... I'm getting mine from stoneybroke ;)
It is £1000+VAT = £1200 for the California. I believe Stoneybroke correctly quoted £1500 for the Crafter vehicle, not the California.

I wouldn't be happy with that... Seems a dubious practice.
