Got our Cali in July, loving it and done 7k already but not very happy this morning. Prob our fault when we ordered but when you spend £52000 you expect as standard a rear heated window. First ice this morning, went to defrost window, realised not installed. Should have ordered climate pack it ordered separate . Will cost too much now, but on a positive note it's the best thing we've ever bought !

Double glazed windows in the back of the Cali don't need ( probally just can't ) be fitted with heating....
The back window for me can be iced , dirty , whatever ....
The rear blind is always closed on mine while driving , as well as the other screens behind the passenger seats ...all blinds down!
It would feel driving in the POPE- mobiel all those windows !

It's quite a big job to wire a heated rear window in. I've done it on a van that was supplied without one.

It's not just a switch and wires (plus the window of course) as the control is from the BCM (Body Control Module).

If you want your Cali to ready on the drive with defrosted windows in the morning....
Use the aux.heater.....just push the remote from behind the window from inside your house or use the timer....
Or leave it on a low setting the whole night...
Or cover your Cali ...

Or scratch ice from the windows...
Or take the bus...

Plenty of choices

Rear heated element + double glazing = burst seal or worse....

Heated front screen would be on my wish list. Got it on the Yeti, brilliant.
I believe it's now an option?

Can you retro fit a reversing camera? A quick flick of the thumb over the lense and you can then reverse with vision without defrosting the whole screen.

.... why not spend your winters in Southern Europe by the sea .... little chance of frothed Windows here ....

Hi Rod, I've fitted the heated rear window, wash wipe...and run a genuine loom back to the passenger seat..but stuck for the rest. Have upgraded BCM, have you any contacts of someone I can pay to get the rest done ?

I originally specified heated rear window on my order until I got some good information from people on the forum here that if you order it you don't get double glazed rear door glass. I felt that for thermal insulation (with such a large glass area) and noise reduction from double glazing was more important (to me) than heated rear window single glazed...so I amended my order.
A quick squirt of de-icer and use the wash-wipe?

John,
I've only done the HRW as I decided that the wiper / washer was too much of a big job mine being a wing doored van etc. so all of that was duplicated. The windows were not in the van originally they were an after market fitment by Van Window Specialists so it was simple to specify 'heated' when they were fitted.
The parts for the HRW control are a switch in the dash with its necessary wiring socket and wiring to/from the BCM and fuse box. If you have a genuine loom you may have the connectors & wiring to the switch and BCM, if not either a good VW Van Centre or a Wurth outlet should be able to supply them however identifying the correct versions was a nightmare! You may note that the switch is available in two versions, one for LHD and one for RHD vehicles as it is located in a different place on each and 'keyed' to the sockets so not interchangeable.
You may like to try http://www.vagnostics.co.uk as an installer for the rest of the job. I've no personal knowledge of their work, it's just a name that comes up on the T4/T5/T6 Forum.
Alternatively http://www.travelvolts.com may be another source of help, again no personal knowledge etc.
Other forums worth a look are...

Apologies for my somewhat shortened (bad internet connection) previous reply, so...
I had originally specified heated rear window on my Ocean order, however, received some very helpful information from forum members explaining that HRW option means you don't get double glazed rear door glass I change my order because I felt that the additional thermal insulation and noise reduction on such a large glass area was more important to me...so a quick squirt of de-icer and a swish of the rear wash-wipe..et voila!

If it's an Ocean or an SE the vis is rubbish out the back window especially with the rear headrests up and bike rack on the back. Just use the door mirrors.

But with Head rests down, only 2 of us, and tow bar rack, very useful.:thumb

Just put 2 Labradors on the parcel shelf - their hot breath soon melts any ice!
