I would still like to be able to operate the heater by mobile phone

Has anyone succeeded in doing this?

Either by installing something VW produced (can't remember the name) or perhaps hacking the signal from the heater remote & constructing something with a mobile phone +/- raspberry pi or similar....

It could probably be retrofitted Easy start web

I think there are probably cheaper third party options out there too.

I wonder if you can do this with the new T6.1?

According to the German brochure "Einige Bordsysteme – zum Beispiel die Standheizung – können
Sie sogar erstmals von Ihrem Smartphone aus starten". I do not speak fluent German but luckily my friend Google does! "Some on-board systems - for example the heater - can you even start for the first time from your smartphone". So hopefully yes.
